I bought a 2019 Cayenne last July fom an OPC and asked if the navigation system maps were up to date.

I was told they get updated "over the air" if the correct subscription is in place.

Well the correct subscription is in place and I've never seen a map upgrade.

My software versions are:

but most maps are dated 2019, with a few dated 2021:

Am I right in thinking all the maps should have a version code of 2021.4_P0490 which would match the navigation database version which ends P0490_EU_2021.4?

If someone with a similar age car could check if their versions are similar or different I'd be most grateful.

I have a same age macan, with the correct subscription, from what I have read, the map data base only updates the areas you have physically travelled to, e.g if you are located in southern England, that area will update, if you travelled to northern France that should update. All others will have the date of installation, in this case 2019.

Yes, this seems to be infuriating normal PCM5 behaviour. You only get updates for the region you happen to be in *when the updates are published*. I had a 2018 Cayenne for 7 years and despite driving all over the UK and Europe, only the South East and Northern UK were up to date; everywhere else was stuck in 2018.

I asked Porsche Reading numerous times if they could force an update or do an update from DVD or SD card, but they never solved it. I pointed out it’s useful to have maps for places you are going to visit before you actually get there, but was generally greeted by slack jawed incomprehension at this idea. There is a way to download the VAG maps to SD card and update them yourself, but it’s yet another way to probably invalidate the warranty on the expensive PCM unit.
