Suspension knocking after heater fix??
Discussion
Got a Taycan with standard air suspension, there was something loose in the boot lid which rattled around when it got to the top of opening and then again when it started closing. Took main dealer 4 days to sort, not sure why but apparently they couldn't work out what was happening. Strange as it sounded just like an internal bolt had fallen off but anyway. While it was in there they did a factory recall for passenger heater replacement, a new part even though the existing one seemed to work fine.
Since getting it back every time I go over a speed bump there is a knocking from the front passenger side. Took it back to Porsche the day after and they suspect a ball joint which even though under warranty I suspect will be chargeable.
Does this sound right to mechanical people? Car has done 36k, it definitely wasn't doing it before it went into the workshop and was doing it straight afterwards. I know this 100% as my house has multiple speed bumps outside which I have to drive over to get to the main road.
If it is a ball joint I understand coincidence but it suddenly failing during the 4 days they had it? Car drives perfectly, just knocks on speed bumps. I suspected something loose which jiggles on a bump rather than a ball joint but I'm not a mechanic. Are they potentially having my pants down?

I would get them to look again, just make sure everything has been put back together properly.
Here is the campaign...

If it is anything like the earlier one it does requiring removing arch liner etc.

They have come back with it being a faulty shock absorber. Not completely failed as it works fine in sport mode, just clonks in normal mode and just coincidence it happened when it was in the dealers for a different fix.
Obviously it is a wear and tear part so not covered under warranty, they are currently coming up with a cost to fix which I imagine will be enormous for an air-suspension car. Not happy at all on a car that has done 36k and been driven gently everywhere.

Final bill is £450 diagnostic fee plus an extra £3100 if I want to change the shock absorber
They aren't recommending changing it as it is working normally, just clonking on bumps in normal mode. To me a shock absorber clunking at 36k miles but functioning normally, and not clunking in the sport modes sounds like a part failure and not wear and tear. Especially as it was perfectly fine going into the dealers and not 5 miles after leaving the dealers.
At least their way they get to say it is not covered under warranty, just general poor service all round and they don't seem to care. On the invoice they even had the cheek to ask me to fill in a survey and hopefully give them a 10 out of 10. Brass necks.
I have literally no chance of getting a 911 again next time, my wife would crucify me. She will get her wish with an Aston Martin I suppose, not the end of the world. Such a shame as I love Porsche the brand, the dealers not so much.

Pay the diagnostic and ask the price of the shock absorber. Then I’d seek the guidance of a well trusted indie. If it is as OPC says I recon an indie is cheaper, still using Porsche parts. Then again, they might actually say, it’s something else (say a drop link or something far less expensive).
I knew a guy with a Macan Turbo out of warranty with a droning noise. OPC were 100% it was a turbo issue and wanted thousands. Indie traced it to a wheel bearing and sorted it for far less.

I paid the diagnostic fee, the shock absorber was quoted as £3100 or thereabouts which is laughable.
Funny thing is a bloke next to me was settling his bill, the service advisor had a list a mile long of work done including major service and a shock absorber. I was expecting a massive bill but it was £900 and something, really reasonable. Saw him pull away outside in an immaculate 997.2.
Made me think modern cars are a step too far, yes air suspension and PASM are great but the component costs are out of control.

Buy one nearly new off eBay for £350 or an aftermarket one new for £700.
They are easy to fit too. Take you an hour at most.
Why is this not covered?
It is not leaking, it has not been damaged from a stone ripping the bag, it has a fault.
I would argue the case with Porsche.
Also, there is a campaign for this issue in certain countries for 2021 cars. They are being replaced when they start clunking.
