Does anyone know the cure for noisy air con when it is on the chiller mode and the cost involved ? This is a fault on a second hand car I am looking at.(1999 model)

Is it the fan that's making the noise ?
When my AC is on the lowest temp', on a hot day, the fan goes at full speed and is quite loud.

My 996 did the same, like a grinding noise hat would get worse, iirc its was diagnosed as bearings. but it only presented after a medium drive, and I was never in the car for long periods.. so I didnt bother, aircon worked fine.

Thanks for the replies but the car has now been sold so the hunt goes on! It seems to be very difficult to buy a good spec 996 that's manual,a coupe and not silver.
