It looks like the new Tuscan could be here as soon as next week... To say I am excited is a massive understatement...

I am already thinking about booking some trackdays for later this year, and I wondered if anybody has any experience of the Tuscan on standard exhausts passing trackday drive-by tests (it'll be a Tuscan 2 S - if that makes any difference).

In particular, I see Bedford have a 87db at 20m drive-by test - any idea if the Tuscan will get through that ok? I've never had to go through one of these test before - does anybody know if you have to be in a certain gear at a certain speed - presumably you can't pass the test just by driving by at 50mph in 5th?

Any thoughts appreciated...

Richard.

It should be ok with the standard pipes on it. I've got CCC on mine and it was too noisy for them to let it on the track

Unlikely to pass with standard pipes

I've got ACT silencers on mine, and I had a trouble free day until the very end when I triggered the noise meter.

Bedford is really strict. Good fun though!

87 Db .... ouch thats low! My Cerb was around 92Db on standard pipes at Goodwood, the 400SE was 104Db (!!!) on a sports pipe at the same venue. I dread to think what my Tuscan S is with CCC cans!

I know! Mine on ACT back silencers is 94db static, although apparently the SP6 is loud but quite deep in sound so the dynamic isn't too bad!

Sirs

Can't you just dip the clutch and coast a tad as you pass the microphone- not that I would advocate any such blatant cheating-I'm purely interested in the the result of the experiment from an academic standpoint.

Well - you can yes, although that sort of spoils the fun of blasting past other cars!

My car (2003 S) has passed at Bedford several times with no problems, although I did have to refit the standard cans. No chance with CCC cans fitted!

My Tuscan (T88CAN) Was 109db @ 5000rpm, tested last year at Goodwood sleeved cans and some "wadding" taken out of the back box.

Some of us had our cars tested again two weeks ago, again at Goodwood.
My Tamora with Super sports Exhaust 114db
Woody-OTT Standard Tuscan 103db
Andy Gordan`s Tuscan..sleeved and Fernhurst modded back boxes 118db
All at 5250rpm.

My S on standard pipes is 96dB at 1 metre distance and 45 degree angle from the exhaust at approximately 5k revs. Since sound disipates roughly to an inverse square law with distance I'd have thought 87dB at 20m off axis should be fine.

On a side note, once again I'm annoyed by lack of science applied to this thread. A similar lack was shown a while back in this thread . So on the current thread we have a range of outputs from 94dB to 118dB (presumably measured by bashing the microphone with the engine valves?), which corresponds to one Tuscan being 250 times louder than another. I don't think so, not unless it's jet powered . Why not try reading about what a decibel is and when it will start to hurt or if you're feeling like some afternoon maths. Rant over.

Call me stupid........but was wondering how CCC cans sound so much louder (and better!) when the standard cans are straight through anyway!? Suppose its because CCCs have less sound deadening along the length?

Next question: Do I need CCCs?

The standard cans have wadding in them, and the centre bits that go through the middle are perforated. The CCC cans don't have these perforations, so give a much louder and sound

But why when you can achieve a louder deeper sound for a fraction of the cost by sleeving the standard cans and removing the rearmost corner silencers?

The added bonus is Mr Plod sees a standard car.
