windscreen woes
Discussion
well its time to get the pj a mot knew it needed a windscreen off it goes to the recommended people in east anglia and low and behold cant get a windscreen from tvr and they cant give a date for getting one, f***ing marvellous, back from america next friday after 3 months away and cant even drive the car.. and only home for a few weeks before another trip. wouldn't mind but the factory when phoned didnt seem to give a toss "its a supplier problem" time for a change.
Know how you feel gudgeon, i had the same problem last summer. TVR gave a lead time of three months but the screen did come thro after about 4 weeks, (Still crap mind). Dealers dont seem to keep them in because of the breakage issues. Racing green did order one but Autoglass just beat them to it so give them a try. I was assured by A.glass that the car was safe to use even with a crack from top to bottom, this wont help get your car mot'ed of course but still usable. (A.glass did a good job fitting) Good luck. Dave.
I work for a windscreen replacement company based in Bristol with 34 branches in the South and Midlands. We hold stocks of classic and sports car glass as well as the mundane stuff. I have just sold our last 89-92 Tuscan screen on eBay but have six more Pilkington ones due in at the beginning of April, all with the shaded top band. We normally have most of the TVR range windscreens on the shelf and last year had Tasmin door glasses remanufactured as they had been unavailable for some time.
The later Tuscans (99 on), Chimaera (93 on) and Griffith (91-01) all use the same screen and these have only been available through the dealer network as and when they have stock. However, we are negotiating with the European supplier to sell us these glasses in case quantities of 25. They are already suppliers to us but it's a bit like pulling teeth getting agreement and a price from them, but we are very optimistic that the answer will be positive.
We offer a fitting service but not in East Anglia I'm afraid. Birmingham, Coventry, Banbury, Oxford and Aylesbury are probably the closest.

thanks for this i need to be at our office in birmingham soon maybe i can work out a way to get the car there. i will also try a.glass once i get back to the uk i can get moving on hunting one down..i need to get the grin back again after driving these pieces of junk around mind you the fuel price is gonna hurt
I was surprised how cheap a screen was, think £200ish from memory(from dealership). Didnt matter to much as ins where paying but trade price probably 1/2 that! Took autoglass all day to fit tho. Still cost me £60 excess. Ring em and get a price. I know some people have insisted that their car goes to a main dealer to have a screen fitted which would probably double the cost. I would've thought that it would then be sent to a windscreen specialist anyway? Sods law if you've no cover a stone will get you. Mine cracked straight after it was hit so no chance of a repair job which would be cheaper fix. Had a screen in my chim aswell and the 'copy' screen they ordered wouldnt fit. They sent a van to Blackpool same day to get an origional from TVR. (good service i thought).
Sounds like your ins is a headache, good luck!! Dave.
