Can anybody please help me.

The original Pioneer stereo needs replacing but I cannot remove it. I have been to two car audio specialists and they couldn't either. There is an aluminium frame around the front of the stereo which seems locked in place.

Has anybody else had this problem, if so how did you remove the frame?

I have been told by a TVR dealer that it might well be glued but I find this hard to believe.

Any help would be appreciated

Do you mean the head unit removal from the cage? If so it’s best to use the proper Pioneer extract tools, which are basically two pieces of flat metal with a right angle at the end which insert into the front of the unit. I also had a few problems when removing my standard head unit as it was a very tight fit due to the radio pod being slightly under sized.

If you mean the metal cage, your dealer is correct these are glued in and can be removed once the head unit is extracted.

Thank you for the response. However, the extraction tools are not the problem. I know there are two slots on each side of the stereo. The problem is, the two slots are covered by this aluminium fascia surround.

The picture you posted isn't the same as mine, my stereo pod does not have the two controls on each side, the pod is just slightly larger than the stereo itself.

I really can't believe that a car manufacturer would glue something such as this in place.

Thanks in advance

As I can't seem to post pictures here, pictures can be found here:

That is the very early eadio pod, I guess your door openers are on the window switches. I would assume then that it is glued on. If you need an up-dated pod e-mail me as I have a spare one.

I probably will need an updated pod as it looks like the only way to get the stereo out is to break the pod.

Yes, the door opens when you press the window winder buttons.

Problem is, I can't see how to get the whole pod out either. It is very firmly attached with no obvious screws or bolts.

So frustrating. Five minute job and I've been trying for days.

The pod is attached by a single bolt through the bottom of it, but you have to remove the head unit to get to it. The centre consol also has to come off to access the head of the bolt as this tends to turn when un-doing the nut.

remove the centre console,u will find the nut that secures the radio pod under there(nut and spring washer 13mm spanner reqd)this will enable u to remove the radio pod.the alloy surround is held in by 2 m5 nyloc nuts accessible from the back of the radio pod.u will then be able to remove the stereo head unit.

Has anybody replaced the stereo in an early Tuscan such as mine. If so, were you able to get an adapter to fit on the exising audio plug or is there an ISO socket hidden somewhere behind the dash?

If you did manage it, any info would be appreciated.

Hi,

I Also have a Pioneer KEH P6600RS which has a dispplay which is difficult to read in bright sunlight. Is there some way of turning the brightness up or is this why people replace this model?

My W2K Tuscan was fitted with an ISO connector that needed to be adapted for use with my front pod mounted speakers. Most Pioneers use the same cage so you may not need to change it.
