Pros and cons to de-catting

Help needed guys,want to make car louder but have read that it's not just as simple as banging through the catts and re-connecting,does this mean I will have to have the ecu altered and are there any other changes needed?

Failing that, what kind of race cans would make a considerable difference?

pros- sounds like a race car

cons - you have to muck around once a year putting them back on for MOT, you could be fined...you may find it too loud for daily use/long drives

personally Id just stick some Carbon Can Company cans on there - then see if its loud enough...I never wanted anything louder

I agree, I listened to a car that had been de-catted and it was just to LOUD for me, and to much hassle putting the cats back in for MOT. I bought Carbon Cans and the sound is fine not deafning and plenty of Pops and Bangs.

If you read through previous threads, a lot of people who've de-catted say there's no need to fit the cats at MOT time, just make sure the car is warm before the MOT emission test. I've just bought some de-cat pipes and havn't fitted them yet, but can't wait for that NASCAR growl.

TVR Power do a decat chip which sorts out the mapping. I know a few on here have got through MOTs ok with them.

Yup, mine's flown through the past 2 MOT's since the De-cat (+chip) without a hitch

As for the too loud thing - I think that's a bit like asking whether you prefer the eighth or ninth pint.......
