Everyday Car?????
Discussion
Hi all
Im new to the forum but have spent a long time trawling through all of the posts relating to buying a used Tuscan.
I have taken a number out for test drives now and I really am in love with these cars. Im very aware of the potential problems and issues but I do have 1 main question....
Is the tuscan a realistic everyday car?
I curently have a BMW 330ci sport which is nice but just too common. I only do 8 miles per day to work and back, and then a quick blast over the NYorkshire moors from Leeds (with all its dodgy pot-holed roads) back to whitby every now and then. I propose to use the tuscan as my everyday car as I do not need it for work, but I do not have a garage and hence the car is parked on the road as its too wide to go on the driveway.
Am I mad to consider a tuscan to use every single day? Im not one of these people that has a banger to use during the week and a fun car for the weekends, i'd rather have a nice car that you can drive all of the time, but need to make sure that the tuscan is up to the task...
Are there many owners around the Leeds area?
Many thanks in advance,
Stu

i used mine every day last year from may till november and if the car was there i just had to use it (to hard to resist)even though i have another vehicle to use.
the car is there to be used (IMO of course)and i will use it again when i get it back.
with the milage you are talking about i dont think every day use should be a worry but if you are leaving it outside then a car cover would be a good idea to stop the rain getting in (common problem as you've probably read)
good luck!
ps,im in york so not to far from you.

Leaving the car outside is one of my main worries at the moment + I really dont fancy a car cover - taking that off and on in the cold at 6am doesnt really float my boat tbh... Are the leaks really that bad?
Your not too far away from me at all in York + I have lots of family + friends that there as well so spend a lot of time there tbh.

I use mine everyday and it's my only car at the moment. I'm in Leeds so if you ever want a chat about the ups and downs of ownership give me a shout.
Thanks for the offer - I will certainly take you up on that. I may have seen your car around actually as if its the same one you dont live too far away from me + I believe that my girlfriend (ex) used to live in the same place as you. (unless there are a few tuscans kicking around the leeds area)
Are there any meets local to Leeds at all?
I have used both my Tuscans as an every day car. This was more out of necessity than choice as I cant justify (or afford) another car. I would agree with the comment re warming up as it would be hard to hit temperature in a short journey such as yours. Hence you wouldnt be utilising its potential. But hey, theres always the weekends for fun.

I agree with the warming up - I leave my car ticking over for 10 - 15 mins before I venture out.
Mine is always parked outside, normally without a cover, and it does tend to leak around the A pillars but it's not a major issue as long as you don't let the carpets stay damp. You might want to look at the car capes that just fit over the cabin section of the car - they'll keep the rain out and are smaller and easier to use than a full cover.
These cars do like to be used though, so you'll probably have less problems than someone who only drives their car every other weekend.
if your thinking about purchasing one now then leaving the car outside during spring and summer should'nt be a worry,i had mine outside all that time last year without any trouble, the water leaks can vary from car to car and mine only leaks a bit in heavy rain so not a major issue.
next time your visiting york let me know and you can pop round for a gander at mine, getting it back this week hopefully,im off boroughbridge road heading into york.
kev.

I'm in Headingley. There are a few Tuscans around Leeds that I see from time to time. Mine lives out in all weathers, and has done for 3 years now.

There's the Esholt meeting tonight at The Woolpack circa 1930 hrs. Esholt is between Yeadon and Shipley.
Gutted - read this too late to be able to pop along - i'll certainly be along to the next one.
Got some awesome news of the insurance front today..... Called APlan for a quote on the tuscan and it came out at £635 which I was staggered at bearing in mind that i'm 24 but with 5yrs NCB and no accidents or points. Its only £200 more than what I pay on the 330ci now....

Ah - your in headingley - the one that im thinking of is a guy in Moortown which is just up the road from me in Roundhay. The guy 3 doors down from me's brother has a black Sagaris + that thing is pure sex on wheels.
Looks like there are a number of Tuscans left outside in the Yorkshire area. Mine has been out in the cold, wet and even hail & snow for the past 2 years without any detrimental effect. Although mine is not my everyday car it gets used 2-3 times a week and has had a few of the common issues, I would not be without it.
Mine also leaks occasionally from the A pillar but only if I do not get the seal right. IIRC you can fit a longer seal and it stops the problem even in heavier rain.

use mine every day. lives outside all year round, done 10k in 16months (well probably more but for the speedo sensor issue)
couple TVR issues to say the least, I wish I didn't have to say that as mine is supposed to be one of the "new" TVR's which are sorted.
regarding "warming up" I have a kenlowe engine pre-warmer fitted. I will post a couple pics and my "opinion" about it soon.
Dispite the problems I have had I love the car. IMO the car is better for daily use than weekend/sunny day driving. Glad I have a waranty though.
The car gets loads attention from pretty young things, although the child seat doesn't help my pulling power

That's not me is it?
Mine's the Blue Tuscan - previously with white stripes on it
Mine's garaged now, and used at the weekend, or during the week in the summer as I've got another car. I used to use it every day though, and it sat outside with no leaks, and started every time throughout winter 2004

Yeah - I think it must be, although I'd not seen it with the stripes on it... My ex was Charlotte and I think she used to live in the same complex as you.
I even (very sad I know) followed you all the way up Scott Hall Road one day just to get a closer look at the car + hear the noise. I was hoping to stop and ask you about the car but thought it was a bit cheeky unannounced.
