Yet another question for those that know... How draughty are Tuscans with the roof off and the rear window in? (I'm aware speed with the window in isn't a good idea!) Do you get buffeted from behind a'la four seat ragtop or are they pretty smooth with the roof off?

Why would you want to keep the window in?

Is it? I was thinking it might act like the wind deflector in my Boxster, hence the question....

So how buffety are they with the window in or out and the top off?

...a bit less buffety than riding outside on a Jumbo Jet, but more buffety than a dutchess's fart

Duchesses farts are pretty smooth if they've been to ettiquette school

Does the airflow whip round and come in behind you or does the screen direct the worst over your head? I'm not keen on that neck buffeting thing that larger ragtops do.

That's the general plan... But then I might end up getting one

I would rather find out before hand though as I don't particularly want to be a test pilot in someone's P&J. However if anyone in north Cambs fancies taking a passenger out

I get a drone in mine with the roof off/screen in at anything above about 60 mph so much prefer it with the screen out.

It is a lot less draughty than the Z3 I had a few years ago. With the rear screen in, I find it too buffety though.

If you are really worried about draughts, you will probably be used to creature comforts. Be aware, the Tuscan is a raw sports car, no frills. No ABS, no traction control, no air bags, etc. etc.

If you were near Chester I would be happy to let you test it.

I find it's most buffety with the drivers side window fully up or fully down.
If you park it around 1/3rd up it seems to divert airflow and calm things down a bit.
Still not as calm as taking the rear window out tho.

Is that "Buffety the vampire slayer"

How Buffety is too buffety ? its a very good, but also a very difficult question. It depends on what your Buffetometer says, if you do not have a Buffetometer, I could let you have one. -- for a small price

Boxster on the buffetometer=good, 996 on the buffetometer=bad

I've seen rear screens depart the vehicle at speed with the roof off...

I take both out when I go topless, too much fear of losing the rear screen if left in. To be honest a draught is the last thing on my mind.

Well put!

Buffeting really doesn't come into the equation. Growling spitting screaming straight six tends to distract you from the wind.....

I can't really draw a comparison to a 'typical' drop top, as the only other convertible I've been in is a Chimaera, but I don't find there is any noticeable buffeting, and from what I recall, it is better than the Chim.

I don't do the roof off/window in combo as I found there is less wind noise with it out (and no risk of losing it!). In fact, the quietest setup in my particular Tuscan seems to be roof off, rather than roof on!

One thing that you might want to consider though, is that driving a Tuscan hard does seem to be rather more draining (but also more rewarding) than a Porker, due partly to the lack of driver aids requiring more concentration, but probably more down to the fact there is more wind noise, rattles, squeaks and engine noise

Last year my Le Mans convoy consisted of 2x 996 & 2x Tuscans - we saw some very silly speeds on the way down from Calais and after several hours of roof-off driving we found on arrival that the 996 drivers felt rather fresher. But they also arrived last, proving conclusively that British Beef & Road Atlas is faster than German Sausage & Sat Nav
