Folks

Neither of my cooling fans cut in this morning and was sat in traffic so the temp hit 100degC.... anything I can look at in the works carpark before either trying to drive home or getting her dispatched to Racing Green?

Thanks

Get a big rag or cloth and a few big bottles of water. I had the similar happen a few times and the problem was misdiagnosed by the garage. I ended up having both the temperate sender to the engine and the fan switches changed. I could tell on mine because their would be a slight flicker on the pod when the temp reached 92 or 94, as if some electrical gremlins were happening when it tried the switch.

If its a hot day just try not to sit in traffic as it will get very hot very quickly. After a while you will get a little jet of steam come from the pressure cap. If it gets really hot it will dump a few litres of coolant under the car.

This is where the rag and the water comes in very handy!

It sounds like the water temp sensor for the ECU has packed up. It's pretty common and a replacement part is about £10.

When mine first started playing up, turning the ignition off and back on when the temp was getting too high usually got the fans to kick in.

Thanks folks

I've decided to get the nice AA man to flatbed it to Racing Green... I've paid for the service so might as well get my money's worth!

I did like the rag and water comment

Paul - several posts on this (regrettably) and sounds like Basil is bang on the money. It took me some time back in Sept/Oct to source a £13 water temp sensor, but thankfully things have been well since that point as my fans stopped working as well and temps went above 106c on one occasion. Martin should be able to sort you out fine...

On the Tuscan is this like the otter switch on the V8's? On these you can short them across with a paper clip as a "get you home" mod. It keeps the fans on all the time but works. Rich...

sometimes the connectors on the sensors only need cleaning
