MK2 Diff Knocking
Discussion
Has anyone else had a problem with this?
I have kept quiet so far but would like to know how many other people have same problem (to much play inside diff causing a knocking noise).
My dealer has been talking to TVR daily about this.
TVR's answer:
Firstly there wasn't a problem.
Then the way the diff was mounted was the problem this got revised still no improvment.
Then TVR went back to the diff manufacturer who said Holden use the same diff without a problem must be TVR's fault.
Now holden have stopped using this diff because there is a problem with it which if true leaves us with faulty diffs.
If I am an isolated case clearly a new diff will sort my car and i will pursue TVR until my car is fixed.
However If there are more of us there needs to be a proper solution if we got together maybe we could get this sorted.

I have the same knocking problem, I think from the diff...notice it most a slow speed in higher gear...always finish up changing down to stop it...Dealer tells me its a convertible problem...because the roll hoops transmit the noise...don't really believe that....tends to come from the nearside...can't say I associate it with cornering though.
yes it does happen when i lift of the power mostly a low speed.
And i don't believe the sound is amplified through to roll over hoop, firstly it must be mounted with rubber bushes and secondly these have been revised once.
I was told it is a convertable problem though as both cars share the same chassis how can this be.

Had a similar problem with mine, about a month ago I took it to Racing Green in Ash.
They hadnt encountered the noise before (low speeds when warm or cold & on full lock)
Martin suggested that the wrong oil may have been used last time the dif was topped up.
I must admit I was a bit scheptical.
The car was booked in, the oil was changed, the problem went away.
So that may be a good starting point.
Those boys at Racing Green know their stuff
