Annual major clean/detailing
Discussion
Took the best part of 5 hrs to do, but in the end, it was well worth it (regrettably not a good photo as cloudy). In order...
- Wash with Autoglym car shampoo/complete dry - app 1hr
- Mothers clay bar over complete car - app 1.5 hrs
- Wash and dry - 15 mins.
- Stage 1-3 of the Mothers Ultimate Wax system (www.mothers.com/products/) - app 2.5 hrs
Having had the car detailed 15 mths ago, it was time for such an annual treatment. Clay bar excellent and removed a lot of impurities not visible. Real surprise was the seal/glaze (Stage 2) which gave the car a real "wet" look and a feel like glass. Very happy with the results and secure in the knowledge that car well prepared now for the next 6-12 mths.

On the back of this post, I've just ordered my clay bar and stage 2 & 3 of Mothers Ultimate Wax system. Waiting for it to arrive in the post, so will let you know my opinions once the hard work has been done!
Set up for 6 to 12 months. Not likely. If it lasts 6 weeks you'll be lucky!
Clay bar - excellent.
Expensive was polish just washes right off. Just like cheap wax polish.
It might look like glass this week, but it won't next week.
The cheapest, quickest "minute/instant" type sprays are needed every week to keep it looking like glass. Better to put those on every week. Takes 15 minutes.

Not so Redtuscan. If you use a good quality car shampoo then it should not strip the wax from the car. Mother's is PH neutral so will not. Over time, wax will be reduced but that is only to be expected. Mother's wax is certainly not expensive and cannot be compared to cheap waxes.
In general, carnauba based waxes do not last as long as Polymer based waxes but do give a deeper wetter look.
I would say that claying a regularly driven car should be done every 3 months. This will, its true, remove the wax but should be followed up with a good wax.
The 3 stage Mother's wax system is very good but I would recommend that each time you wax, the Stage 1 pre wax cleaner would not be needed.
The sealer glaze is a big seller on our webshop with the Carnauba wax joint with the Polymer based Refelctions wax. It really depends on what finish and longevity you are looking for.

Just spent about 5 hours outside giving my car the love and attention it deserves. I've done about 1/2 the car with stage 2 & 3. Very pleased with the results.
Mothers clay bar seemed to be very good at removing all the little surface particles.
Stage 2 gave a high gloss finish and [I guess] the wax gives a protective top coat. I found the easiest thing to apply the wax with was my bare hands as they warmed the wax and worked it into the pait well.
I have to say that a large proportion of my time was spent with t-cut, getting rid of many fine surface scratches.
I just need to invest in a touch up pot from Webbs of Bristol as there are still a lot of stone chips on the service bonnet. Anyone know how easy it is to touch up Reflex Purple?
RedTuscan,
I agree the prices ALL companies charge here are very high hen compared to the US. This goes for most products that are imported here. But, you need to factor in the following:
17.5% VAT
Import duty
Shipping
higher bank charges (indirectly...not 100% Gordon's fault!)
higher insurance liability than in the US
higher printing costs than the US
higher advertising costs than the US
Add to this I also need to make a bit of profit (or is that a rude word) and you can see why the prices are higher. At the end of the day, I feel my prices are the cheapest I can make them for Mother's when compared to others. I wont even go into comparing Mother's to other Wax products.
Yes, I am biased due to using Mother's on all our details, this is due to quality of finish verses price. This is also how we get excellent quality and customer satisfaction but do not charge nearly a grand for a total detail.
As I also mention on our website, I have no tie in with Mother's and if a product comes along that equals the quality then I will move to that brand. At the end of the day, it's the finish we leave on our clients vehicles that counts.

Not necessarily so - I had the car detailed 14 mths ago, and with regular washing, living under a cover and general decent treatment, the general quality of the detail/finish was still evident after all of this time. I drive the car 10k+ miles per year, so it is also well used.
