After a 1 hour drive today as I was getting home, 2nd gear was becoming harder to select. Then 1st and 3rd followed. After letting the car rest!... I could hardly select any gear at all. If the engine is not running, everything is fine, but as soon as I start it, the gear box is near impossible to use. Is it the clutch????!!!!

Yes sounds like clutch. Just check clutch slave cylinder first.

7000 miles is pretty poor if it is the clutch, but look on the bright side you've got a 3 year warranty behind you to cover any such like premature failures.

I hope its something really simple tho such as low hydraulic fluid.

Good luck

Alex,

maybe a stupid reply, but do you regularly unintentionally "rest/leave/..." your foot on the clutch pedal?

Why?

Well, my dealer told me the same problem with a customers car. The clutch pedal is extremely sensitive and the slightest touch can cause excessive wear. Since then I park my left foot away from the clutch pedal.

How?

Previously I used the largest seat setting(I'm 1.91m) but after knowing this and more importantly a track day, I shifted the seat one position shorter. By doing this, the "knee-bending" is more comfortable then it is in the largest seat position. Strange but true!

Never rest my lefty on the clutch pedal. One of the best things about my tusc is that i have plenty of room to move my left foot quite eaisly and comfortably away from the clutch pedal. I am also 6ft 1'.

Where is the cluch resevoir??? I understand it to be the one in the driver footwell. If so this is full about 5 mm from the top.

Sounds like an incorrectly adjusted clutch mechanism i.e. too much travel resulting in failed clutch finger springs, although surprised this has happened at such a low mileage, although this should be covered under warranty as it is not the friction material of the clutch that has caused the failure.

I always had my seat set in that same position, although I did notice on LHD Tuscans there is actually less space to rest your foot away from the clutch pedal than RHD ones. The clutch on my previous Tuscan was still going strong at 28K miles so I assume that it is a matter of incorrect adjustment.

I had exactly the same issue. New slave seals from Leven Technology for about £40 sorted the problem out (plus the 300 quid to fit them!). Would have got a new slave, but they were in very short supply at the time and I couldn't get one for love nor money.

You should be able to check fairly quickly if it's the slave. Get it on a ramp and see if there is a load of fluid around the gearbox. If there is, there's your likely answer.
Speak to Jules at LT...

It 'might' just need adjustment at the pedal .. worth taking it to your local dealer or indy to get it checked out ASAP.

I was going to post how great it was to get her back, but alas it is not. I think I would have been banned if i had said what I had wanted to!!!!

So, just to give you the picture, car goes in for a cluch problem which turns out to be the seals, comes back with no battery charging whilst driving....all power lost to the Pod display after 10 mins of driving and then the car would not start at the services due to low battery charge. But worst of all is that I believe the cluch problem is back straight away!!!! I cant get 5th for reverse and 1st.

TVR must do better, this really is

Sorry to hear about your troubles Alex, a real bitch. Hope this is all under warranty. This sort of thing would probably have Clarkson saying "I TOLD YOU SO". But then no one takes him seriously anyway. Still at least your not missing any good driving weather !!
Regards Dave.

Hiya Dave, yeah life is a bitch!!

Thanfully it is all warranty work, but it does not make up for the fact that i have had my car off the road for the last 10 days and now again for ? amount of days during the best weather we have had for ages!

On a brighter note, the dealer has been very apoligetic about the episode and I am now considering to have some ccc's fitted while it is back in for the new clutch.
