Okay here's one I'm sure has been done a million times but I can't find anything about it.

Since the recent ban my car is looking rather much in need of a good wash. The bucket and sponge job is just far too smearing and time consuming in this heat. Does anyone here take their car to a hand car wash? are the truck wash chemicals okay? what about the jet wash? any thoughts welcome.....

General advice would be to never wash a car when its hot. The paint is softer and becomes more prone to abrasion and thus scratching. Power washers are also not recommended with TVRs as they can quickly blast water through seals and water gets where you don't want it. Would be OK on the wheels though, but again, you don't want water splashing up into the engine bay where it can play havoc with the electrics and electronics.

I'm sure that some handwash places will be fine, but personally I would go out with my own bucket and sponge either first thing or last thing in the day when its not so hot.

Fortunately, we had a drain fitted into the floor of our garage, and a tap fitted to the garage wall. If it wasn’t for my moral conscience I could close the garage door and wash the car undetected.

You have a hose pipe ban?

Up here in God's country we have enough water for everyone.

I'm just off to clean the car and then I may go for a dip in the pool after it's finished filling. Well, it is rather hot.

But a good way to get a tan ! Personally I wash mine by hand in the morning before it gets too hot - then take it for a drive before the rush starts to make sure its properly dry.

Not unless you want loads of electrical problems.

OI Don't tell everyone - the roads will get busy and one won't be able to blatt across the dales.

I suppose a trip up to BNG would get you close enough to a decent water supply

You need lots of water up there to keep all those Whippet's clean.

I know the general opinion is against it, but I've jet-washed mine every couple of weeks for the last 2 years without much problem. Just ensure that your mechanics have silicone sealed the cover over the spark plugs, I think it's stand procedure, (otherwise you'll get a misfire that just won't go away), and try not to aim it into the vents for the fans or by the windscreen too much. They're built to withstand the English weather so water shouldn't be that much of an issue!
