My Tuscan is just coming home after an absence of 5 years. It has not had any mods since delivery in Oct 2000 (Not even the roof bracket!) Does anyone have a list of all the modifications since then? I had a letter from the factory about a safety recall re the front suspension upright corroding...you guessed it...this hasn't been done either! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From memory, and I could well be missing stuff, the only safety recall was on the uprights. Mods are:

Roof catch added
Door opening buttons moved to stereo pod
Heat sink on gear stick

May be worth a search in the archives.

Chassis/engine mount heat shield

Larger rear window less chance of it blowing out.

Dare we ask - absence of 5 years? Curiosity has got the cat on that one!

Well spotted Neill! It's great to have my Tusc back but it needs quite a bit doing to it. Immensely long story which I won't go into here. However, have bought a set of damned sexy alloys and a pair of CCC's - graduated black through orange! Will post a pic in September when all fitted and its looking in top form! I was one of the few people in the country that knew the mileage of 1,650 was genuine but on the downside I guess I have an engine rebuild to look forward to!!

Where can you get that heat shield from? Is it a standard dealer part? Thanks.

Al

It is a standard part available from TVR dealers. Although I believe quiet expensive.

Part numbers U2551 (heat shield tunnel cover) and U2554 (engine mount heat shield).

The two heat shields come to £358 (inc VAT).

This is from a previous post.....can't be bothered to do a search.

...search hasn't worked properly for a while...

You can get the heatshield stuff from Demon Tweaks for a fraction of that and it is the same DEI stuff.

Al,

I spoke with Dave about this stuff and fitting it to my car. Anyway I ordered enough of it to do more than 1 car and had it sent direct to TVRCraft, should arrive there tomorrow. I suggested to Dave he uses it on your car as well.

Cheers

No probs Al your most welcome.

Yep, both cars nearly there, the missus will soon be seeing even less of me than she does now...Its true what they say, absence does make the heart grow fonder....Iv'e missed my Tusc so damn much! Sad as it may be, I bought a Tuscan S scaled model off fleabay. I was so fed up with one of my neighbours asking me everytime I am home "when are you getting your car back?" I opened my garage door and showed him the replacment....1:18 model looks a bit silly in the middle of my garage floor laugh

Until we meet for that beer.....cheers beer

laugh I have the same thing - a green model Tuscan sitting at home on the shelf, so don't feel so bad. My girlfriend bought it for me at christmas as a temporary substitute. Out of curiosity, how much are you declaring to your insurance comapny about the modifications made, and how much has it affected the premium? I know you've got the supercharger to consider, etc.

I wrote to the insurance company explaining what problems and issues had been found with my engine and declared what modoifications where being arranged at the time of writing. Essentially they were not interested in the reliability modifications as long as I was not looking for an increased agreed figure above book value, as they do not cater such a scheme. The Supercharger has loaded it quite a bit but I have been asking around and when my cuurrent policy expires I will most likely be jumping ship, but thats not for another 5 months yet. I will be doing more research on the matter nearer the renewal time. I spend a fair bit of my time away from UK and my car is off the road over the winter period, coming out only on those odd crisp clear sunny days. Hence I go for limited mileage policies.

To look at it pragmatically, sure we have spent upwards of 10K on reliability modifications, but the insurance companies will not consider that and value the vehicle as such in the event of a total loss case unless you have arranged an agreed value policy. The TVR Car Club insurance company offers agreed value terms as do many others, I will look into this option. My experience has shown that they have always been significantly more expensive when quoting for standard policies, but they do include official track days and runs out with clubs etc... (I have heard of an Insurance company classing such an event, (as the latter), as a trial in an effort to get out of a claim thro small print).

When it comes to corporate enterprises I am very untrusting and believe that more of the time the paperwork issued is not worth the weight of the ink on it. My bl00dy pensions sure are turning out that way....!

Catch you later
