CHIMERA 500 TO TUSCAN 2S
Discussion
Hi,
There's bound to be a post in here already so sorry if I am repeating, but has anyone gone to the new Tuscan2S from a (late) Chimera 500 and if so was it a great choice?
Thinking of stepping up this weekend and wanted some advice/opinions if there are any out there (WHAT-Opinoins on ph?!
)
Thanks
SORRY, JUST READING TACOMA'S ENTRY NOW!

I miss the V8 noise and the low down torque and cruisability of my Chim 500. I also miss not worrying about an engine explosion every time I nail the throttle on the Tuscan. And the servicing was cheaper.
Otherwise the Tuscan looks better, goes much faster, has roll bars and side intrusion bars, so feels safer, has the best of both worlds with the targa hardtop. Has better electrics, lighter clutch and better brakes. Much much more expensive to service and the worry of an engine rebuild, but you will not have that problem with a new one with a warranty.

I've been thinking on and off about changing my Chim 500 to a Tuscan. However, with the exception perhaps of the Tuscan S, I'm a bit sceptical at just much quicker a Tuscan would be. My Chim puts out just under 300BHP and 345lb/ft torque at the flywheel. A standard Tuscan might make say 340BHP and 280lb/ft torque at the flywheel (I'm guessing here so please correct me if I'm out). The weight of my Chim is 1,060kg and that of a Tuscan is 1,100kg. The torque on the Chim makes the acceleration very strong, which is something the Tuscan lacks at lower revs even though it produces higher peak power. Also, I've been in convoys with Tuscans, Cerbs etc and I've yet to find one that can noticeably out-accelerate me, if at all, at speeds of up to say 130mph (on a private road/track of course).
Top speed in a Tuscan would be higher than a Chim 500 and I think the handling might be better depending on how the car is set up. The Tuscan is a more modern feeling car (comparing say a 2001 Chim and a 2001 Tuscan - I've driven both) and is easier to drive IMHO.
Personally, I think upgrading from a Chim 500, you'd have to go down the the Tuscan S route to not feel just a little bit disappointed overall, IMHO of course.

I'm 0ne of the lucky ones and have both 500 and Tuscan S. When I got the Tuscan it was a standard 4lt and too be honest the Chim was quicker. Then the engine broke and had an S spec engine fitted. What a difference!!!
Although theres only supposed to be 40bhp difference in the standard and s spec engine, what a difference it makes. I've now stopped having fun with other cars and regularly have blasts with top end bikes as their more of a challenge.
But as a car to chill in the Chim wins hands down. As for one that has real impact and ridiculous speeds its the Tuscan.

Changed 1999 Chimeara 450 for 2005 Tuscan 2C (not S). Both have been on the rollers at Austec. The RV8 developes lots more torque at lower revs, but where the RV8 starts to wheeze (4500-5000 rpm) the S6 absolutly buggers off into the distance. I can't see anything RV8 keeping up with it unless it was seriously modified. T2C has nearly 85 hp more at the top end and keeps on pulling. My Chim was hardly slow (310 lbft and 250 hp). If you can use the gears round a track (heal & toe) and thrash the nuts off a S6 it is V quick compared to the Chim. However, still miss the lowdown torque for instant acceleration, rather than having to drop a cog or 2 to get action. V8 music is hard to beat too...

I miss the V8 so much that I am seriously thinking of getting another. This time it will be the Chim 500 instead of the 450. The Tuscan does sometimes look a bit lonely and could do with the company. Two TVRs! am I mad

Have a look at my 500 if you are there on Tuesday night. Stu
Thanks for all the tips, I went with it as being a top idea and tomorrow pich up a 2005 Tuscan 2 S. Yippee! Not got a photo of mine but found this that looks the same:

But the longer I wait the more chance I have of it being a T350...now two (early) S6's...that probably is mad!
