What is the real torque output of the 4.0L speed 6 engine, standard and S? What is the same for the Rover based 4.5L and 5.0 engine? I've read all I can on PH and get an impression that the speed 6 lacks low speed torque. I have a TVR V8S at the moment and considering it only weighs 950 ish Kgm wonder how the pulling power of a Tuscan, Chim. 4.5/5.0 and Griff. 5.0 compare. Had a test drive in a Cobra replica, GD with 6.3L stoker circa 400 ft lbs and mighty impressed, so once again how do the other TVR's compare

Figures give a base line comparison and build an impression in ones mind. As you did with the Cobra, go and test drive some there are plenty for sale. I think what you will find is that the S6 is down at the lower revs, but has a much better spread and keeps on pulling really hard right to its last breath, its a different animal to a V8. Don't read too much into the factory figures they are generally known to be a little higher than reality, especially the BHP. There is little difference between the 4.0 and the S. More valve overlap, different map, larger bore exhaust and bigger breaks plus a few other asthetics.

Good advice Y but I noticed a big difference between the 4litre S and the 3.6. Might have been gearing as the S comes with the close ratio box?
The 3.6 has plenty of power but you need high revs to get the best from it best above 4k in my experience.I found the 4 litre had more lower down in the range.
Until I got used to using the revs I was serously considering getting it upgraded.
