I was interested in your views on the new Tuscan dash. I notice all new tuscans come with the more conventional tam/t350/sag style dials with screen below. I imagine this was done after some criticism of the digital pod. Personally I think the digital pod is cool but just wondered how well it works and whether you think the new dash is worth having. Sorry if this is old news but what exactly was the problem with the old pod?
I agree with Unrepentant. I had a MkII S with the up-dated pod and it was fine. I remember having concerns at first as the digital dash is quite a departure from the norm. However the info is very concise and readable and you soon get used to it.
As a general rule I prefer the original interior to the current one. The car deserves a wacky interior and the aluminium stalks etc look really good. Not having the standard T350 / Sagaris / New Tuscan dials sets the car apart.

Interesting question.
I spent many hours wondering if I even wanted to complete the order on my new Tuscan 2S when the dashboard changed. Poor Paul at Gatwick TVR was wondering if he'd ever get the deal done!
I moved from a 2001 Tuscan - I loved everything about the dash on that - especially the window controls.
My g/f and I test drove a new Convertible, T2 [with electronic dash and broken indicator stalk] and she took out a Sagaris. Ultimately we chose the engine/Gearbox of the Sagaris in a practical [and beautiful] Tuscan S. I [being a big kid] wanted ally stalks, electronic display and a 'Start/Stop' button [even her mother's Toyota Yaris has one of those!]. Ultimately my g/f asked the killer question 'Are we buying a great gearbox/engine combo that's packaged in a drop dead gorgeous [Spectraflair Silver] body, or just a pretty dashboard'
Of course, she was right. We took delivery in March and have enjoyed every second of ownership. The new dash does 'swoop' in all the right places and echoes the bonnet line. The dials are simple and the speedo doesn't wobble about as my old Tuscan one did.
We mixed up our order and accidentally didn't get the aluminium stalk covers [dealer fit] but actually prefer the black [Ford?] stalks as they are unobtrusive and feel fine.
One lucky guy [in Belgium?] got a T2 with the old T1 dashboard - that would be my perfect choice. My new car is better built, feels solid and dependable and I spend more time looking at the road speeding towards me than the [still quite cool] dashboard.
BTW - I had two engine rebuilds in the old car and still couldn't consider anything other than a TiV.

I have to confess to being a delighted Sagaris owner (my first TVR unless you count two loan cars from the factory - Tam and T350). So much so I am getting quite obsessed with the marque and can't see myself wanting anything else for a good while yet. For someone who finds BMW M5's and Porsche Turbo's etc boring a TVR is a breath of fresh air and for me the last pure sports car. I can see why most people prefer the numb, metronomic German alternative as they are better modes of transport but they just don't stir the blood like a TVR and aren't fun when being driven slowly.
I also have to confess (quietly over here on the Tuscan forum you notice!) that I'm starting to think that the Tuscan S (targa) has nearly everything I love about the Sagaris and lacks a few of the things I don't like, if that makes any sense. eg I love the roll cage but I'd also like to remove the roof, if for nothing other than tunnels. I always wanted a mk 1 Tuscan S but on seeing the Sagaris prototype I was compelled to place an order. While there's quite a big difference in the handling between the mk 1 Tusc and the Saggy, I imagine there's much less of a gap with the tuscan 2. I still think the Sagaris is the better track car but I have a Caterham so that side of things is less important to me. Then again, having been severely tested by a mk 1 tusc S around the nurburgring, I know what they are capable of!
I'm far from having made up my mind as I enjoy the Sagaris so much and I've owned it from new, run it in perfectly etc. I'm just wondering which is the way to go, good used 2005 tuscan S with digital pod (no running in needed but then again no guarantee of sympathetic treatment either) or try and get a deal on 2006 car with the new dash? Any other significant changes other than dash?

I have a Tuscan Convertible and really wanted the original Targa Mk2 dash, but was forced to have the new one. Having got used to it I really like the clean lines of dash...no bits stuck on like the original(for air vents). My car was back in the factory for 2 weeks so I was lent the old Mk2 Press car (with the old style dash). I did enjoy it but the pod kept failing...driving blind no speedo or fuel guage is a pain at least you've got a backup with analogue dials. The thing I really love it the old steering wheel with the colour co-ordinated infills and polished centre boss...The new one is a standard crap Personal thing like my old Chimmy...I keep pestering the factory to make me a covered one....on the alloy stalks front...I ordered my car with them as factory fitted ... and I'm still waiting 6 months later (plus they've got my £100)....Still I have paid them for 3 times thickness seat cushions cos I'm not that tall...at least I can see the top of bonnet now!!!
Other significant changes?
Well, from memory.
1. Speakers/head unit changed from Clarion to Alpine [We upgraded the head unit and bought an iPod controller - it has the most infuriating and unfriendly user interface you can imagine but it sounds great, if not actually playing the particular song/album you wanted to hear!]
2. External boot aerial now invisible. Apparently it is inside the boot lid - it works fine though
3. I'm not sure but I think the early models had only the upper headlights faired in, 2006 model has both sets faired in.
4. As already mentioned, the steering wheel has reverted to the 'Personal' model.
Can't think of any more changes.
If you do decide to change look out for subtle use of 'Carbon' leather. Personally I like the different texture compared to standard leather. Surrounding the handbrake and inserts of the seats is a good combo.

As I'm fairly low-tech, this is the best I can do:
This shows the old, electronic pod:

Click on dashboard for bigger pic.
The newer one is here:
www.tvr.co.uk/overview_tuscanconv.php
Click through the different little grey camera icons in the middle of the page to find the interior ones.
Hope this helps

ah now it all makes sense
what do the buttons do on the centre section (in front of the gearlever) on the mk2 new dash?
what do the buttons do on the centre section (in front of the gearlever) on the mk2 new dash?
The lower part has the door opener in the middle and the window up/down buttons either side of it.
The upper part
From the left
Temperature control & push in for air con on/off.
Fan speed control & push in for fan on/off
Fog lights
Side & main lights
What an amazing collection of amazing interiors. Each one of them twenty times more imaginative and artistic than anything ever fitted to vitually any car other on the road.
Trouble is, there's a really good deal on a Tuscan 2 with original dash, but the new dash is growing on me and I imagine would tend to work reliably (as has the one fitted to my Sagaris). However, to those who complain of it going blank and not being able to read anything occasionally, consider that it would be a good defence against a speeding fine....

I've done 12k in my T2 with the "pod". Apart from the original problem of the screen being invisible in sunlight (good old TVR product testing
) which was completely rectified by the new screen, it works well and I like it because of its individuality.R666 TUS said:
Must say I like my old mk1 dash best, o.k. it didn't work
but sitting in the car you could not spot a peice of plastic
anywhere. sadly with the mk2 you have plastic stalks, steering
cowl and all the air vents that used be aluminium too which IMHO
is a shame.

Agreed it is a shame, the MK1 was just so bespoke I still have the ash tray from mine for making the green sweets disapear!
Good thing about the latest MK2/convertable dash every thing works & they are so much better put together.

Unrepentant - was your screen replaced as part of warranty? If not, can you let me know how much you paid for it?
