hi guys.my tuscan overheated for the first time ever the other day, went right up to 110 on the gauge and steam every were.so i pulled over and switched off.let it cool and topped up with water, got it home ok as oniy local.cant remember hearing the fans when i think back.so come the weekend i started her up and waited to see what happend... one fan cut in at 94 at tick over but not the other.it didn't over heat but prob would if i drove it i guess and only the one fan cut in and out.
i checked the two fan fuses and both were ok.. does any one know wot else i should look at and if both fans come on together or are staggerd? also what is the normal running temp?
could the loom take me just running the second fan from the 1st with a couple of scotch clips and a bit of cable to even just run it down to my service centre or maybe as permenent repair?
thanks john.

I've just been through exactly the same. More often than not the fans would kick in @ around 94 - 96C but sometimes they wouldn't and the temp would hit 104C. The pressure release cap would then vent water everywhere
I changed the fuses, I changed the relays and I even changed the temperature sender unit situated under the air intake. It still did it.
Finally gave up and got the car, via the AA, to my (not so local) TIV dealer.
Got a call today and the problem was a corroded terminal to the temperature sensor unit
Hope that helps

You also need to ensure that the relays' (there are 2 - yellow) contacts are in good order. The relays are under rated for the current load and the contacts tend to burn after a number of operations (high inductance DC motors do that when the supply is dropped off, they want to keep on pulling the juice.....). Open up the relays and clean the contacts I suspect they will be burnt. Its also wise to have a spare pair of relays as back up.
What isn't wise is to have the engine over heat, the stud bolts are weak to start with and tend to stretch which is why a number of S6 engines blow head gaskets.....what ever you do DO NOT allow anyone to torque down the head in an attempt to re-seal the gasket.......Craft have seen a couple of cases of this and the results are not pretty.....but it does provide an excuse to spend a wedge and get a top end rebuild at the same time.....!

John - may be worth checking out the water temp sensor as this was the issue when mine overheated twice over a year ago(temps up to 106c and steam everywhere). The generally accepted range at which the initial fan should kick in is around 92/93c, with the second fan coming in 94/95 - this is my experience and that suggested by Racing Green. One final thing - make sure your radiator is not leaking causing lack of water/coolant as this could be impacting things as well.

thanks guys for all the suggestions, gives me a few more things to try.. does any one know were i can get a manuel or hand book from as i got nothing with mine and am workin blind all the time trying to locate were things are.
Hate to say this John, but the manual does not actually help a whole bunch on these types of issues! I find Pistonheads is generally more definitive and helpful!
fan 1 should kick in at 94c, fan 2 at 97c. Check the water temp sensor. If all fails do what i done and bypass the ecu with new relay so as you can start both fans manually when you feel it needs it. The fans will still work as normal though the ecu if you dont manually switch them on.
I did this and have never had a problem since,

ok guys spent weekend trying ur suggestions, and its looking like temp sender fault as fans comming in to hi up temp range.
but im not sure what it looks like or where under air box it is. can any one be more detailed so i can clean up terminals or replace.oh and any ideas on who to contact to get a new one if need be.
thanks tons for all the help.

You'll have to take the air box off. Don't force it as there is a clip underneath that's not obvious. ( you have to get your hand between the airbox and the block if memory serves me right).
Once you've got this off - the temp senser is pretty obvious. It's poking out of the side of the block round about cylinder 2 or 3.
I got my replacement from my local dealer - next day delivery.
Hope that helps
