In Cardiff last week just stopped at traffic lights idling normally (smoothly) between 800-900rpm and the engine went clunk and stopped dead (Tuscan Mk1).

AA brought it up to Middlewich for me and Torque RVT have taken the rocker cover off to reveal the auxilliary shaft has snapped - causing the chains to stop.

I had stopped for petrol and checked the oil about half an hour previous and all was fine.

Has anybody else suffered this problem, if so, was any other damage caused, how long did it take to put right and how much did it cost (ish).

Thanks in advance,

Colin

If you mean the jack shaft that drives the alternator etc then yes I've heard of it once before. There was a thread on it here a while back but the search function seems to be down.

No, there is a chain which drives the two overhead cam shafts, that chain is connected to a lower centrally mounted gear. It is the shaft for that gear that has broken, the gear is now on an angle and caused the engine to jam.

I don't think it is related to the alternator

Sorry I misunderstood. That doesn't sound good.
