Steering rack's.

I am posting this on behalf of a friend that is not a member on PH, he was wondering as his steering rack seems to feel looser to what it once was, therefore there is a bit of play!, do they wear out? and if so is it a common fault
it it makes any difference the car has 33,000 miles on the clock

Just had to have mine refurbished due to leaking seals @ 32000 miles so yes they do. However if there is play in the steering i'm not sure this would be the rack it could be the arms but i'm no expert.
