Oh dear a litre of oil every few hundred miles isn't good - are you sure the drain plug was replaced after the last service?

The oil consumption sounds a little excessive-how many miles has it done?I would expect to see 1lt every 1500 miles for a synthetic oil.Have you got a bit of blue smoke on tick over(look at the exhaust is there a haze of blue).
The tick over sounds like you need to have the idle/butterfly's reset-but it may also be an effect of the oil loss.
The early tuscan's used to like tram lining alot-the red rose helped with this a bit.
Its worth first checking the tyres for uneven wear, pressures and ensuring no play in the steering/arms etc.If its all ok then have the cambers/tracking reset.
I find alot of sports cars including the beamers wonder alot because of their wide track and tyre profile.

Before you worry about engine wear you need to confirm the viscosity of the oil being used. If it is a 10/40 then it may suggest that the engine is a little worn and my money would be on valve guide wear, however if it is a 0 or 5w oil then the oil is a little too light. Change to a 10w and see how the engine then performs with regards to oil consumption, if the heavy consumption persists its an indication of engine wear. Its then up to you how and when you want to have the problem addressed. There is plenty info on PH regarding the options open to you.

With regards to the suspension and the car tram lining, Nitron dampers are superb and really make a big difference when installed and properly set up. A number of folk whom have driven my car comment that its road manners are far better than other Tuscans they have driven. I believe its down to the Nitrons and their set up. Trackcar solutions can help you out in this respect.

Good luck

Stu,
This reply wont really help you any, and I'm not sure as to which way you should progress, there are certain people here who have a good knowledge of the SP6, and Y*** appears to be one of them.
I have been speaking to one person who races "Cerbs" and reccomended topping up with a certain type of oil, My Tuscan is now drinking it like some park alcholic, I'm am now worried about the rate at which it's dissapearing.
I had suspicions as I poured it in as it was very very thin, I aint gonna name the oil as it is reccomended on the tin by TVR.
As it is such a lovely and tempremental piece of kit, find someone who will look and care for it mechanically, and put your trust in them.

Regards,

James Sim.

A little bit of silicon spray on the seal will help

Ive just bought a 2000 Tuscan and it looks like I have valve wear. I am getting oil contamination on plugs.
Its in for inspection prior to repair. It may be worth checking your plugs.
Also do you know when your tappets were adjusted. It may be just simple shim adjustment.
Good luck.

Hate to say it but the idle speed changed and the oil consumption increased significantly with mine - it found its way to TVR Power for a rebuild this month....

I hate to scaremonger but get it looked at - it may be nothing but it is worth getting someone to take the top off and have a peek.....at least you'll have piece of mind when the all clear is given!!!
