Am off to view a Tuscan on saturday, it a 2001 4 litre with 19k miles, has a FSH and just had a new clutch and tires, also just had the dash pod done. It hasnt has any upgrade work done on the engine however it does have a 20 month Autoprotect wear and tear warranty. I know that buying a car with engine upgrades is advisable however with the comprehensvie warranty I am considering it and just wondered peoples views.

you may want to ask or read about the smallprint. i know tvrs own warranty doesnt cover wear and tear on cars over five years old. wear and tear counts as all the common engine problems and clutch. but id say just buy 1 you will never look back, had mine nearly 2 years, and love it more than ever. good luck
Many people here have had wear and tear cam follower problems with their S6 engine that have been denied by their warranties even with low mileage. I am distrustfull of them. It seems that the knowledege that it is a well known fault allows the insurance company to reject liability.
I would urge you to source a car that has had a relatively recent rebuild either by TVR Power, TVR Craft or Austec. I never bothered with a warranty but have a 4.5k fighting fund for when it breaks again. (my rebuild was done Jan 2003 and i bought her in 2004).

I have to agree with Tuska.
In my opinion, if you are looking for around a 2001 model, with c 20,000 miles you should really go for one with a recent rebuild. There are so many posts on PH about warranty nightmares when it comes to engine rebuilds.
I bought a 2000 Tuscan with 20,000 miles and had to have a rebuild soon after (even though there was a full service history).
Mine was rebuilt by TVRCraft and I'm still running it in at the moment but the engine feels and sounds great !!!

My only comment would be that the red coloured one had a rebuild in 2003 and the other one you are looking at was rebuilt in 2006.
From the research I did when I was looking at buying my car, it appears the likes of TVR Power, Austec and TVRCraft have made huge improvements in the engine design and engine parts to make the speed 6 far more reliable. I would therefore prefer to go for a car with a 2006 spec rebuilt engine rather than a 2003 rebuild.
Thats my opinion for what its worth.....
Its definately worth making an offer on, it really is a buyers market at this time of year.

Completley agree. My 2003 rebuild is still going strong, but its now done 16000 miles since the rebuild and i KNOW its going to go again. 2006 rebuild every time........

My late-2003 3.6 has done 28k on its original clutch, as far as I'm aware, and the clutch still feels very healthy.
It also hasn't had a rebuild, and the top end looked fine at the last service, so these "oddities" are out there!

www.pistonheads.com/sales/81975.htm found this one too, only thing I would be worried about this mileage is gearbox probs and the bushes needing replacing etc. On the plus side its just had an engine rebuild and has 12 months warranty.
www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/86479.htm found this one too, just spoke with the guy and its having the engine rebuilt at TVR Power as we speak, he said that there was no sign that it needed doing but he thought he wouldnt be able to sell a 2000 car without it being rebuilt, also just had nitrons fitted. What do people think about the price??

Late ´02 on engines seem to have been much better, so not really an oddity on the engine front, although 28k on a clutch is good going.

I bought my 2000 Tuscan in August, and the prices varied from about £14k up to £18k for a 2000 reg. I went for the bottom end of the range and then had the engine rebuilt taking the price to about £20k (although I have had various other bits and bobs done since).
OK, so £20k sounds a lot for a 2000 reg car, but you get peace of mind and if the body work and interior are in excellent condition its like driving a new car. You will have a well sorted car which should only have reasonable running costs going forward.
So in answer to your question - In my opinion, I think that is a fair price for a 2000 reg with a brand new rebuild !

Went and looked at two cars that are having engine rebuilds at TVR Power at the moment, had a good chat with Dom about the two cars and went for a spin in one of them, has had a massive amount of things done and ticks all the right boxes so hopefully coming to some sort of agreement on price!! heres the car in question www.pistonheads.com/sales/81975.htm the colour looks much better in the flesh!
