Hi My car is 19 months old and was last serviced one year ago at 6000 miles, it has now done 7500 miles and my thought is just to get another 6000 mile service but I am not sure if this may invalidate the 3 years warranty due to the next stamp on service manual states 12000 mile service which includes tappets, gearbox/diff oil change, fuel filter and air filter change, anyone else out there faced this, opinions please.

Get it done but don't stamp the book. Just keep the reciept and print out of the service with your service book and show the next owner what a great owner you were and how you had extra services done. Well that's what I'd do. You're having the 6k service done for peace of mind, and not to avoid the pricey 12k one aren't you?

The valve clearance check is optional, so you could get the 12k done to keep the FSH intact without.

How many months has it been since the 2 services..?

Dont forget its 6k miles OR 6 months - which ever comes first.

What I meant was the servicing is every 6k miles or every 6 months (doesnt matter how many miles its done be it 12,18,99 etc etc)

Thanks for the replies, the car has only done 1500 miles since its last service 1 year ago at 6000 miles and thought I would hold off getting the remainder of the 12000 mile/2 year service until April when car will be 2 years old.
Claire, I think you are wrong when you say 6000 miles or 6 months, it is 6000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first.
I just thought at 7500 miles getting gearbox and diff oil changed etc is not necessary at this time but may have to rethink this due to possible warranty issues.

I know what you meant. I'm just pointing out that you're wrong. The service interval is 6000 miles or 12 months, not 6 months.

Oil can deteriorate over time as well as use so I would always have the gearbox & diff oil changed, but as for the tappets these will only change with actual use, although if the car is still under warranty I suppose you have to keep to the service schedule.

What is the official tappet adjustment schedule, is it when it has actually done 12000 miles.

I would advise everyone, especially if they have a 36 month warranty car, to have them serviced to the letter. A service is required every 6,000 miles or at 12 month intervals and there is very little leeway. I think that the factory will accept 2 weeks either side of the due date or 500 miles. It is a stipulation of the warranty that the car is serviced in line with these recommendations. I know that it's difficult when many of the cars cover such a small mileage year on year, nevertheless I would advise that you have the valve clearances checked at 12,000 miles or 24 months. It has been proposed that with the new generation, Euro V engine, that we will be able to move to annual or 10,000 miles service intervals. Even at 6k intervals we're still better than the likes of Mitsubishi Evos!!
Hope that this helps and best regards, Tony

Thanks again for the input, the concensus looks as if I will have to get the 12000 mile service including tappets.
