Just taken my Tuscan Red Rose into Castle TVR for a minor throttle problem and they've told me the finger followers are worn and the engine needs a top end rebuild which will cost £6k+!! It's done 32,000 miles so this is no real surprise but this still seems a bit rich. Does anyone know of a better, less costly option that's not a bodge? I read Kippers thread about the AMB Performance solution www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=218782&f=152&h=0. Is this considered a worth while remedy or an elastoplast fix?

HOW MUCH

I feel for you mate!
If you were that worried, you wouldn't have bought it!
Those 'voices' can be very persuasive, can't they?
Get it sorted now and you'll be laughing (a lot!) in the long run.....trust me!
Nil desperandum!
Where in Essex are you? - If you need a sympathetic ear (preferably over a pint!
)........

Tragedy is this is only half the story. I only picked the car up on Saturday!! I knew I was taking a risk with the mileage but at least expected to a few months out of it. At the moment it looks like what I thought was a calculated risk is about to bite me in the preverbial!!
Private or trade, and how was it adverised/priced? Despite the old caveat emptor business you may have some comeback? (Just before you bite your lip & get on with it)
It was a private sale. The only come back I might have is that the previous owner mis-advertised it as an 2002. He's a solicitor so will know where he stands.
I have contacted him today to try and appeal to his sense of integrity and suggested he might consider helping out with the cost. Not surprisingly, he didn't bite!
What do you think?
The ad read:
2002 TVR TUSCAN 4.0 S 2dr [380] Convertible (trade)
31,000 miles, RED, Petrol, 2 Door Convertible, Manual, 31,000 miles, 51/01 RED ROSE (same as "S" - uprated engine/brakes/shocks/a/c) Nightfire pearl red./full beige leather (Stunning combination) spider alloys, Climate, A1 immac. cond. FTVRSH,

The V5 shows the origianl date of registration as 15/08/2002. But in the mass of paperwork that came with the car I found a copy of a vehicle enquiry report which shows that the car was originally registered on the Isle of Man on 16/01/2001. He made no attempt to highlight this. In fact when I asked why it was a '51' reg yet registered in 02, he made some remark about it being a late regsitration. Now I feel a pratt for not questioning it further.
Just checked the Citz Advice web site and with regard to buying faulty goods from a private ad it says
"The only real protection you have when buying privately is that the item being sold should be as it is advertised. That means it should match the description given in the advertisement."
The car was clearly advertised as an 02 and is an 01. I might just have a case??
