Which is the best oil for a noisy 30k + RR engine?? Is there anything so miraculous it will quieten the engine - apart from turing up the radio?? confused

I've been using Mobil 1 oil and have done 34,500 miles. A friend of mine recently told me that this oil is very thin and that I should use something like Castrol GTX as it’s a thicker oil and will reduce engine wear. I'm no expert but it does make sense. I believe that if you have had a recent rebuild its advisable to use a thin oil like Mobil 1 for the first 6,000 miles. Like I said I’m no expert. Maybe do a search on previous threads, like you I would be interested to know.

Ask the Opieoilman see this Topic. I used Castrol RS 10W60 in my previous Tuscan when the valves stretched & oil consumption was high with the Mobil1 0W40.

I´d second the castrol RS if you want to stick with fully synth, although mine´s on Castrol magnetech semi-synth since Power serviced it earlier this year.

That's normally 15W-50 isn't it? I was using this but switched to a 10W-40 to give a bit more "fluidity" at start up for the top end of the engine.

I thought the reason for Semi Synch for running-in, was because it allowed more wear during the running-in process.Hence the switch to full synth after 6000 miles...I now use Q8 Formula F1 10w-50 as recommended by AutoMedon.

my car had 10w-40 mobil 1 till about 10000 miles, then 0w-40 castrol rs till 18,500, now its also on 10w-50 Q8 formula 1 as recommended by automedon. i cant tell the difference to be honest but i'll just use what i get told is best for it.
