The engine has done 32k miles and is getting a bit rattly. It's going in for a rebuild in the new year but thought the oil treatment might make it a bit more barable in meantime.

All the scientific studies (rather than jop bloggs says it transformed his car type reports) say best just to change good engine oil every 3000 miles if want best possible protection.

STP is a very viscous product and will take up some slack in worn shell bearings for a time. If your engine is suffering from the usual S6 issues, (Cam lobes, Finger follower and valve guide wear) which from your post it sounds like it is, STP will do little for it. In fact it may hinder cold start lubrication flow to the top end, making matter worse still. Just put up with the rattly top end until it breaks or you can afford to get it done properly. The whole engine has to be stripped anyway to check that all oilways are clear.

Put the pennies you would spend on the STP into the repair kitty.

Good luck

You're grasping at straws now, aren't you?

Get a loan and get it fixed - short burst of pain for long-term gain.

Do you have low oil pressure .. if so it's more than possible there
is a reason for it.

My old T350 had this and it turned out there was a loose earth...
