Discussion
There have been numerous posts on here over the last few months regarding use of oils and which is best.
For the record Al Melling did say at the Middle Wallop presentation day, that a 15w50 mineral oil was what he recommended for use in both the AJP6 and Speed 6 engines. Not just for the run in period but for permanent use. This he reported is perfectly suitable along with the approved service intervals.
I know Craft use Millers 15w50 mineral oil in all their S6 rebuilds and have used it in mine.
I also know from experience (early days with a bike) that a thin full synthetic must not be used in an engine with new bores and rings. Most of the oil will be burnt in the combustion process and the rings will not bed in properly, leading to a potential reduction in compression....but it smells good.!!!

The Shell helix is infact a hydrocracted mineral oil, the better half of a semi synthetic effectively. The engine should be run in by 1000 miles and you could use a "true" synthetic 5w-40 if you wish.
Cheers
Guy.

Tuscan RR with freshly re-built engine by TVR factory to Sagaris/S spec.
It had the mineral running in oil for first 1000 miles, now main dealer has put in fully synthetic Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40.
I had thought it should be on a semi synthetic for the next 6000 miles?
Any thoughts?
cheers

Was he saying that oil was good for TVR's sp6 as well or just his?
