Worth considering or not ?
Discussion
I have been considering this car on ebay, does anyone know it?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl
It has 54000 on the clock and had a rebuild at 10000 miles. Would you be worried by the high mileage? It comes with a 5 month TVR warranty and they would take my Chimaera as part-ex. Would be grateful for any info or advice,
Thanks,
Mike

Is it mint?
Is it on original shocks?
When was the clutch done?
What other work is imminent - tyres, brakes?
Are you being offered a good price for the Chim?
Does the mileage bother you, or is it "just a number"?
"TVR warranty" - backed by whom?
Do you have reserves for an engine rebuild?
Who serviced it last?

Am being offered £9500, which seems ok, for mine although not as much as i would get selling privately. Here is my ad:
www.pistonheads.com/sales/121981.htm
She is being sold as immaculate so whether that means mint, i won't know until i decide whether i want to go and see her. The car was last serviced by Fernhurst who changed the clutch, shocks and rear tyres, however that was 6000 miles ago and i am waiting to see if she will be serviced before sale. I won't buy if she is not serviced. The seller is trade and has agreed to have the tappets checked before i buy, if i do! The warranty is backed by a TVR Dealer as the car was sold with a 12 month platinum warranty in May 2005. The mileage does concern me but on the other hand could indicate a sound engine, i guess it depends on what the tappets are like.
I could buy a similar car from a dealer, in a more preferable colour, from someone i use and trust, with 30500 on the clock, a more recent rebuild but a worse part ex price for mine and £5000 more to pay. It would only have a 3 month dealer warranty rather than 5 months although this is negotiable but, "often a sticking point". The one on ebay, i would be able to put the £5000 aside for a rebuild.
Or should i hold out and get something more recent and an S spec ?

I'd be tempted...pretty good p/x price I think (guessing really).
Mileage wouldn't worry me, but agree resale might be an issue, but the £5k you save will go a long way towards any engine issues, or if the colour is an issue, a respray!
Have you spoken to Fernies? Do they know the car? If the dealer will let Fernies (or your chosen indie) service it and fix any issues then it could prove to be a bargain.

I definately want a Tuscan but the more i think about this one, the less i want it. I have spoken to Brian at Fernies and he knows the car. He thinks it also had a second rebuild before they serviced it last time. The current dealer does not seem to know about this although he also spoke to Brian today who mentioned this. There is no way of contacting the factory to find out. He is happy to take the car to Fernies to have the tappets checked but at my expense. He has suggested we can come to an agreement about servicing. I have just booked mine in later this month. I am tempted. the resale value is a worry. I like Up the Iron's idea of getting Fernies to sort everything before purchase. What to do !!!
