Hi all

Anyone bought a battery from these guys, and which make/model would you advise for a Tuscan 2001?

Alternatively, any other mail order companies you know of?

Although quiet a bit more expensive the Optima would be the best choice, as it is much higher spec & should last a lot longer, I have heard good reports about them.

I bought the Varta one a couple of weeks back. It was delivered quickly and well packaged. Starts the car no problem!

Two points I would make:

- The battery doesn't have a lip for the hold-down clamp to grip. It's a tight fit in the battery box though and is now wedged in very securely with pieces of foam rubber. It looks from the pictures like the NUMAX one does have the lip and the optima one doesn't.
- The battery claims to be charged when it arrives. I hooked it up to the optimate and it took about 24 hours for the charging light to switch to maintain. I suspect this meant it wasn't very charged!

And finally - I got bloomin deafened when I reconnected it (head in wheel arch) and the alarm woke up all flustered and started screaming at me!

Cheers,

Tom.

The Tuscan takes an 096R (or 574 013 068 in Varta speak). Don't buy a plain 096, you need the "R" version signifying that the terminals are reversed from the normal 096 positions. i.e. positive on the left, negative on the right, as you look at the battery with the terminals in front of you. I've just been through this search myself!

I'd go for the largest capacity, highest-tech one you can lay your hands on. It's such a PITA to end up with a flat or dead battery, and TVR batteries lead a hard life.

Cheers,
Pete
