Has anyone de-catted their SP6 (RR?) but not put in the de-cat ECU Chip? Or is it considered an essential partner to the de-cat for fueling reasons? Does a RR engine lend itself more towards or away from fitting the chip?

Just curious, ta

Had TVR Power do my de-cat, and they recommended the chip at the same time. I had no inclination to argue with them, and it flew through the emissions test on the MOT without the cats then.

Sounded silly-loud, too. evil

Easy option: Give Dom there a call and ask about doing one without the other.

Cheers JSG,

Had a bit of an email exchange with Dom this evening and, for the money, it sounds like it is worth putting the chip in.

Just bear in mind their de-catting of it will be taking your cats and punching the middles out... there'll be no going back.

(And it is bl**dy loud if you've got sports cans on, too)

Thanks, I'll probably have the de-cat done locally here in Kent with new pipes replacing the current cats (rather than just removing the cats themselves from the existing pipes) and the chip from Dom. I think one of the cats is on its way out anyway and I am concerned about any crap from the cat going back into the engine on over-run due to the extended overlap with the red rose set-up. Hopefully the engine will rev a little easier with them removed anyway.

As to the noise....well....can't be helped can it! thumbup:

I’ve just replaced my cans for Blue Flame shark nose with the silencers removed and it’s LOUD. The over run is out of this world. I’m not sure I would decat as well as this would be TOO LOUD.

No worries Andrew, just kidding really In your opinion, where in the rev range is the noise increase the most noticeable?

Cheers

Once warmed up you get different levels of noise through the range. But when your foot leaves the loud peddle the pops and bangs are fantastic. The chap who fitted them at Fernies (Brian I think) said that as time goes on they will get louder . Well worth the £450 I spent on them.

Mine is due back from Automedon - decatted with Chips (no fish though). They said the chip was needed to get the fueling right - I am happy to go with their suggestion - they do know their stuff.

Cant wait to get the car back

Just got it back today .. I can say only one thing WOW!!!!

Pops and bangs all the time

Whats more the chip seems to have set the car up great, runs smooth sharp, and just excellent.

The Guys at Automedon had done a great job yet again

Great stuff Nick, good for you! I have been without mine for a few days now and unlikely to get it back until the middle of next week so really looking forward to that.

Take it easy,
