A quick question - The power steering on my Mk1 Tuscan (2003) recently developed a considerable leak, (1 litre in 30 mins driving). It's been to the garage who sent the rack away to be refurbished by a specialist. They couldn't cure it though, (a common problem according to past threads), so it looks like I need a new one. Does anybody know what vehicle they originally come from, or are they TVR's own design? Also where do you get genuine TVR parts now as I'll need it couriered to Spain?

Thanks.

I read on a previous thread that it might be from a Peugot 106, (but then I also read that it might be from a Renault van), can you think of any way I might be able to confirm this before I order one? I don't suppose that it would be in TVR Powers' best interest to tell me this, as I guess TVR spares sell for more than Peugot ones?

Are you talking about the power steering rack or the power steering pump?
The electric pump is a PSA part (Pug and Citroen to you and i ) The rack is a TVR part IIRC the one i saw had the TVR logo stamped on it, whether its from another car as well??
What other cars have such a quick rack? 1.8/2.0 turns?

Oh bug**r! This doesn't sound good at all. Thanks for the help everybody. I guess I'll be spending tomorrow on the phone trying to find someone capable of refurbing it then?

Lee - had identical issue some months back with a leaking seal on the steering rack. It got taken out, sent to TVR Power (by Racing Green), returned and then some 20 miles later, started leaking again. Out it came again, back to Power again, and all has been well since then. Rack re-conning generally seems to be an appropriate solution in all but the most severe of cases.

Thanks Baz, I don't suppose you remember the approx cost for the refurbishing do you (without the labour for fitting)?

Cheers,

It was done under my 1yr auto-protect warranty, but seem to think that there was not much change from £400-500 all incl.
