Warranty on 4 year old Tuscan - worth doing?

My Auto Protect warranty has just expired, and I'm looking at whether to take out a new one, or just stick the money to one side "just in case".
While I'd like the protection of the warranty to cover big bills like the engine or gearbox expiring (I'm not too fussed about small things like speedo sensors etc...), my main concern now is that as the car is 4 years old and has done over 34k miles, the warranty company will have a good excuse to get out of paying by claiming "wear and tear".
Has anyone had good experiences with warranty companies paying out big bills on a car of this age/mileage, or am I better off just putting some cash aside myself?

Been thinking this one through myself recently. I guess it depends on current state of vehicle and recent works etc.
I have a 2001 Tuscan, with recent Power rebuild, new clutch and new shocks etc. Being some of the most expensive things to look out for, I am quite comfortable without warranty, though based on the recent press release from TVR Power I shall be speaking with Dom about any option to extend the warranty on the engine.
As you rightly say, the main issue may well be the wear and tear debate. Good luck with whatever route you choose and I'd be interested in your findings.

Ed - in a similar position to you currently as my 1 yr AP warranty expires in July. Car will be just under 4 yrs then, but I am pretty much set on taking a renewal out. This years warranty has already paid out on claims matching the cost of the warranty, and with pod work currently required, will exceed it.
Its a personal decision, but the idea of a sudden (ie - sods law dictates immediately after warranty expiration) £6k from no-where for another engine rebuild is not something I want to encounter and saving that amt in a matter of a few mths before the end of the warranty period is not an option. Will likely use the next year, under a renewed warranty, to build up said "fighting fund". Also - after car is 5 yrs old, think the cover dramtically reduces.

That's my worry too - I'd really rather not be hit by an unexpected £6k bill for a new engine, but realistically, how much of that would the warranty company actually pay for with a 4 year old, 34k mile TVR?

I bought my car in june last year, and because of all the problems at the factory the dealer agreed to put my car on a third party warranty even though it was still less than 3 years old and had factory warranty remaining. However, the warranty has proved to be next to useless, windscreen leak, washers broken, probs with pod - nothing covered - the list is quite long and in the first 3 months the dealer helped me alot with the niggles at their own cost, the only thing i can recall being covered was a leak in the cooling system which including collection of the car came to £300, so in june will I pay £1000 for the warranty plus the cost of an inspection, nope, if the engine goes i'm pretty sure they would wriggle out of it in any case, so whats the point.

Blade - was your warranty a "TVR Approved" Auto Protect at full £1,350 cost? Only reason I ask is that I have not experienced the same issues with 2 leaks in my steering col, and expect the work on my pod to be covered as well. I do know certain other "non-approved" warranties have been notoriously iffy to claim on, and I also seem to remember you can get a lower value Auto Protect warranty which may be tougher to claim on.
AA warranty has worked for several on here - but I think it only kicks in if you call out the AA and they diagnose the issue.
