Any East/North Yorks Tuscan owners want to do me a favour?
Discussion
Maybe a strange request maybe not...............
I've always had 2 nice cars in my garage, always a nice german car and a nice british car, they have always filled different roles, I expect the German car to be fun to drive, quick, semi practical, reliable and cheap to run, hence I run a 911.
The british car has traditinally always been an experience from the moment of opening the garage door to parking it up, reliability is more of a luxury than necessity as it is very much a second car, but the car must be an event from moment one.
Having got rid of my Lotus over a year ago I have been dithering back and forth between another Lotus either elan sprint again or europa twin cam, maybe E type, or even a newish elise with a 1.8T engine.
The thing is the E type is big money even to buy to restore and considering I restore cars for a living having my own car to restore before I can even drive it is frustrating...
The Elan and Europa are lovely, but very unreliable, I can hnestly say everytime I went out in the Elan something went wrong, and they still cost wrong side of 10K for a good one.
Elise will cost me 5-10K plus another 5 for the engine conversion, and its a bit.....well boring looking, there is no shortage of them out there, love driving them but I want something special.
I have a friend who has a couple of cerbs, and I do like them, but I would get frustrated with the roof, I would sooner get a chim or griffith, but again gorgeous pretty car but not particularly unique looks.
So I started looking at Tusscans again (last time was about 2 years ago) and I am amazed how cheap some of them are now, for me the Tuscan is a piece of art I can get in and drive. I realise it may let me down at times but look at the other cars I'm looking at can it be worse? From what I hear they are not as bad as the myths make out anyway.
What I could really do with is someone who will give me a bit of help and advice, preferably a current tuscan owner, talk me through the problems, things to watch out for, things to avoid, things to seek out, in return I can offer as many pints of beer as you can consume during the advice session!
Is there anyone local who fancies trying to get another tvr owner on the road?

Hi Oliver,
I think you will need to talk to more than one owner to get a good idea of ownership of a Tusc, as i think we all have different stories to tell. Some will say it's never missed a beat, some will say they're riddled with problems. You get good ones and bad, like any other car. They do have their faults, but driving it more than makes up for them. When i get mine fixed again,
i may drop by to tell you it's not all doom n gloom.

I live just around the corner form HHC and will be around all day on Friday if you want to meet up
Hi everyone, quick update, went to HHC, had a sit in and a good look around a couple of tuscans, and am in a dilemma, I prefer the seating position of the cerb, So I am in this dilemma of do I go towards the tuscan for the looks or the cerbera for performance and comfort?
Why is life never easy?

Yes,the Tuscan might suprise you re performance.....
Why wouldn't they offer you a test drive ? Phil is quite a decent sort of chap if you dealt with him, they had no issues re test drives when I bought the Tuscan from them (I did pay a bot over the odds but touch wood so far they have been good, including over £1100 (at trade)of work before I took delivery)..
Be really interested to se how you get on offer of help still there.....

I don't know it just wasn't offered, to be honest my mind has been elsewhere for past couple of days (rather not talk about it right now) although will say phil rang today to tell me about a car and was very understanding when I explained why I wouldn't be doing anything for a bit.
When I have got a couple of things sorted out I would love to take a couple of you up on your generous offers.

5k for a conversion is a bit on the optimistic side...Elise will cost me 5-10K plus another 5 for the engine conversion, and its a bit.....well boring looking, there is no shortage of them out there, love driving them but I want something special.
Honda conversions start at 10k (13k for S/C), Audi conversion is about the same price, and Duratec conversions are almost dead (which was the cheapest as it retained the original PG1 gearbox).
