The dash on my Tuscan (2005 if relevant) behaves oddly, sometimes it scrambles and sometimes it doesn’t even come on. I’ve been told there is a ribbon under the steering wheel going into the ECU that can come loose. I can’t for the life of me tell which it is, I wouldn’t even describe any of the cables as ribbon, more like a lot of connectors.

Can anyone help me identify what I need to check, ideally with a photo? I’m sure it’s very simple but I’m stumped.

Cheers

I've got a 2004 Mk.1 with the 'old' style Mk.1 dash/'pod'.

The ribbon on the pcb stack goes from the light knob/switch onto pins on the second board in from the speedo plate...if that makes sense?

Sounds like yours is a Mk.2 though. Have you taken any covers off the dash itself? Might become more obvious then.

Cheers. That matches the description I was given but I only see one board and nothing I’d describe as a ribbon. I’ll try using my phones front camera to get a better look underneath. I haven’t taken the dash off, I wouldn’t know where to start!

If it's a MK2 pod type dash remove the cowlings and steering wheel to gain access to the pod screws and pull it forward to check the cables, some go to the ECU and others go to the centre console, remove the radio and allen screws at the rear of the console to check cabling.

Mine had a fan failure which resulted in overheating, shutting down the dash and constantly rebooting when it cooled down, was eventually sent away to be repaired.

Could be the same car, alloy pearl in colour and bought in Scotland?

It’s going in for some warranty work in a week or so so I’ll get the garage to sort it! The chances of me stuffing up is far too high! It’s not the same car, mine’s Islay Blue although it was sold as Crystal Topaz.

Best place for it if it's still under warranty, a loose connector would have been a dream! smile
