After a hiatus for a few years today I’ve put a deposit on this beaut.

One of the first things I want to try and sort is stereo. I saw a post from BigGriff but the links weren’t working. I’m thinking amp powering speakers in the rear bulkhead and the standard speakers, but keen to get the soundstage forward as well. Can obviously do some tweeters but has anyone mounted any in the door cards with any success?

Can’t wait to pick her up in due course. 991.1 911 really hasn’t ticked the boxes, yes it’s fast, but my god it’s boring !

Hi- I have a Tamora in which I installed a fairly basic head unit (i.e. <£100), upgraded the rear speakers to Clarion 3-ways, fitted a pair of front tweeters and added an underseal low profile subwoofer.

PS welcome aboard! what a splendid looking purchase beerbow

PPS why was the 991 boring? interested

Ok cool thanks ! I had a tam before and at least you get some speakers in the door cards which brings the sound a lot further forward. Don’t want to have everything coming by from behind really. I’ll definitely get some tweeters up front though in an attempt to get sound moved up.

Thanks, yes very very happy with it. Pines after a Tuscan for some time.

The 911 was just too competent. It was quick but being a 4S you couldn’t provoke it at all. It was also PDK which definitely isn’t for me. As the years have passed I’ve realised that my fun cars need to be manual. Fine for the family wagon to be auto, but manual is just so much more engaging.

Now going to have three 25+ year old cars to sit alongside the Rangey. Ironically the Rangey is probably the least reliable of the bunch. Well, at the moment - let’s see with the Tuscan crossed🤞

Know exactly what you mean. I had an early Tuscan and after about 3 years thought about upgrading to a Porsche. After a test drive thought the Porsche was great but just too competent and not a lot of fun. I wanted my second car to cause me to grin every time I drove it - the Tuscan did but the Porsche just didn't. Kept the Tuscan for a few more years until kids came along - still miss the rawness of the Tuscan. Enjoy your new toy!

Mine too. Just the 2 in the rear bulkhead.

Thanks guys.

Plan is for a set of Focal 3 ways. Mines currently got 6x9’s in boxes on screwed to the rear bulkhead which I don’t like. I want to be able to use that back shelf for the dog/bags.

So the plan is to get a black Lakeland carpet set. Strip her out, dynamat the tunnel. Mount the woofers into the rear bulkhead and For the fronts you can buy pods to house the tweeter and mid which I’m hoping will then fit on the shelf at the front. If I do it at the same time as the carpeting it should be nice and tidy.

The carpets are looking pretty tired anyway so not a bad time to do them. The Lakeland ones seem really good value as well.

Otherwise I’m not going to mess around with the car much. Maybe some nitrons down the line, but just going to try not to tinker and enjoy driving.

Picking up this afternoon so hopefully she gets me back down to Cornwall safely.

You don't have much room for mounting speakers into the rear bulkhead as the fuel tank sits against it on the other side.

I was looking at buying a lakeland carpet set but by the time you've finished with the delivery charge and probably VAT & duty, they are not far off the cost of the Central ones. For the risk of hassle if anything needs swapping etc I'm going central for the sake of 50 quid or so.

Ok that’s good to know on the carpet’s front, hadn’t noticed that difference so will probably also stick with Central.

Does the tank not sit a lot lower down than where the shelf is? I only really need to fit the magnet out the other side and know it was definitely possible on the chim and tam. I just want to get rid of the big boxes that currently adorn the shelves. A) there’s zero sound quality from them and b) they deem that space totally useless so need to go.

Basil, was it you that did the speaker upgrade that was written up?

Any tips would be great if so.

Mine had 130mm diameter pioneer speakers in the rear bulkhead, pretty much as high up as they'll go, originally from the factory and there is just enough height above the top of the tank for the backs of the speakers to fit. Any bigger and I think it may be tight, depending on shape of speaker frame.

No, not me on the upgrade.

Ok cool, thanks.

Think I’m going to go for the focal 3-ways. In the meantime going to upgrade the 6x9’s.

Great run back, speedo stopped working but hey, it’s a TVR.

It’s ticked every box I hoped that it would. Couldn’t be happier to be back in the fold !

This is the back of the bulk head with the 130mm speaker. The edge of the cleaner patch just below the cables is where the top edge of the tank sits.

Ok great, thanks. I think the focal woofers are 6inch so looks like there’s a bit of space to do that. What do you reckon?
