Does anyone know what charge is needed to jump start a Tuscan 4.0 Litre engine (Mk1 2003), assuming near zero degree conditions when it doesn't get used much?

My Tuscan unfortunately doesn't get used enough at the moment and know the local RAC man too well. I am looking to buy a jump start kit and am wondering how much charge it needs? A few weeks ago after stupidly leaving the lights on and having a completely dead battery, the RAC needed to connect two of their jump start kits to get it to crank.

Will a 400 amp with 900 amp peak kit do the job?

Thanks.

Not sure about a Tuscan, but that wouldn't do my old Cerb. if it was really flat. Would only usualy start off a running vehicle.

Hi, I was advised to purchase the Banner Booster (Page 2):-

Cost was £235, bought it directly from them

I have not had cause to use it yet though, as I tend to use the car at least once within a 14 day period, and so far car has always started fine

Hi the battery will die very quickly if it is not connected to a conditioner/charger. Letting it go dead and then the shock of jump starting is terminal for most batteries.

Can you get a conditioner to it?

Ctek or accumate type conditioner would be the best solution if you have access to mains power

Same here, one day I will "plumb" it in, but its a bit of a faff bringing wires right through the car to the boot, unless there are suitable wires in the boot to connect it too?

Thanks for all the replies.

If I am not using the car for a long period, it is often at my Dad's and have access to a conditioner there. Unfortunately at home it is next to impossible to connect up a conditioner for any period of time.

I find the problem is occasionally after a couple of weeks I try to start the car, there's enough power to attempt to start the engine but not quite enough and then the alarm goes off presumably with the battery then flat. To avoid that I wanted to be able to give the battery some assistance.

It sounds like I do need a much more hefty jump start kit.
