Question for a previous owner of my car
Discussion
Why on earth did you think it would be a good idea to remove the emergency door release cables?
Replacement is one of the most fiddly jobs I have ever done on a car. 4 hours to do the first side and 2 hours to do the other (benefit of having done one). The whole job is only possible with the use of special and very expensive tool.......an 11 year old girl with small hands!
For others if you are thinking about replacing emergency door releases i can offer the following tips
1. Do not replace the whole thing including outer sheath (thats the 4 hour job). Purchase a 2m long pull to stop handle from ebay or similar and use only the handle and cable (discard the outer and slide the new inner through the old casing from the handle end in the cockpit./ If removing the old cable you have to pull it through from the cockpit end. You will almost certainly lose into the depths of the car the fitting that retains the end of the cable top the latch
2. There is a rubber boot at the door catch end, you will have to remove this and open up the hole at the narrow end to get the new cable inner through it
3. Spray some wd 40 or similar into the empty casing before you try and slide the cable through.
4. keep the cable inner ends absolutely pristine or they will not enter the casing
5. Retaining the cable at the catch end is tricky. I ended up by dismantling an old plug and using the brass screw terminal for the fuse which slid over the new cable inner and down to the catch where (with the aid of small hands) it could be tightened using a screwdriver
6. Test repeatedly and adjust as necessary, plus test the regular unlocking buttons to make sure you haven't fouled anything
7. Instruct 11 year old girl to forget all of the new words she has just heard

Not my old car, (I can attest that the release is still present Jim!) but I expect what is more likely is that the cable was never there. Most likely an ommission on the production line rather than a removel. Though it may have been done for security reasons, IMHO if someone is going to go to that length to get in to the car then fair play to them. If you want it that badly just take it! Most people couldn't start it even if they had the keys.
Cables were installed oringinally as the outer case was present for both and on the drivers site still contained the core but the handle had been removed.
The made up cables cannot be installed as outer only because the end fitments to the inner make it impossible to install at a later date
