MK1 interior vs later models
Discussion
I am interested in people's view on this. IMO the MK1 interior is more resolved and coherent than the later models which to me look like a jumble of ideas that don't quite gel.
I know this is subjective and I don't want to upset owners of any type of car, but I am interested in people's views.
(I know that the later models arguably have increased functionality and more reliability with the dash, but I am talking aesthetics here)

The convertable/MK3 interior for it's functionality, reliability etc, but the MK1 interior for it’s sheer looks which will never again be seen again in a production car.I do miss the pod vent’s of the MK1, and the ashtray for making the green sweets disappear.

Still have the ashtray from the MK1 though

I have to admit that I often change before the lights unless I mean to, I dropped the lights by 500revs as well. I'll admit you learn the sound, still miss the sweep of the rev counter in the corner of the eye , and I find the lights not quite in the right place for me.
Would be nice for a 3k light for the warming up cycle or the M3/M5 type warm up lights, most of the time I drive with the full screen of data on checking oil/water temps and pressures following all the scaremongering, learning just to drive it and not worry these days. Need to do a 12k mile service, now overdue......

I love the MK1 dash, one of the main reasons that I went for the MK1. The amount of metal they used was increditable. You could easily kill someone just with the weight of the ashtray. You just got to admire the craftmanship. AS mentioned above, I doubt it will be repeated again in any production cars, not even Rolls or Lambo can match that kind of quality. It also bring a unique feel when you sit in the cabin. I wonder what is the weight different between MK1 Dash and MK2? The only down side I have experienced so far is you can't see a damn thing with so much shiny metal reflecting the sunlight when the sun is shining from the back!!

I also dropped the lights to 4.5K, 5K and 6K rev respectively, as i like the lights keep flashing like a christmas tree without going to mad on the road. So the green light = slaughtering the Bimers, yellow = bye bye Porkers, red = taking on the Prancing horses!! I have a Mk 1 Tuscan and always though the wavy dash in later models looked really good in photos, however when i saw it in the flesh when i drove the Racing Green Speed 6 demonstrator i was not that impressed (with the dash not the engine). I am now glad i have the Mk 1 dash and have now made it match the colour of the car.

To be honest the photos don't really do it justice, the LED light looks quite harsh on the pics whereas its really just a blue glow.

Photos?
The orignal ones were slightly smaller than later ones so the radio would not fit very neatly and the bezel could not be used.Factory denied this and would not sell me a new one so got one from a breakers and got it re-covered so the same as the original just a better fit:-Compare with previous picture:-

I did the LED's a while ago and wrote a little post on it here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... If you have any other questions just ask.

Think the dash looks great, a lot of hassle, but result is fantastic! To be honest the photos don't really do it justice, the LED light looks quite harsh on the pics whereas its really just a blue glow.
I do have one preference on the mk2 interior - the ability to mount speakers in the door cards up front. Currently my mid range speakers are in the standard positions and they arent ideal, sound stage ends up slightly behind your head!
Im not that worried tho, its a minor niggle, you dont buy a Tuscan for its sound system...at least not the one in the cabin
