Ever been embarassed by another marque ?
Discussion
Last weekend , after a fantastic few days in Edingburgh we were traveling back home in our Tuscan along the , er main road, sorry private stretch of road, when i realised we had picked up a rear end support vehicle in the shape of a V10 Audi R8,. Not wanting to hold him back i dropped a gear, letting the throttle travel as far south as is possible taking the Tuscan well over 140 leptons only to glance in the rear view and see him flashing his lights for me to move over whilst stuck to my rear end. To add insult to injury he had the top down as well. I obliged and spent the rest of the day licking my wounds, and questioning my sexuality

Standard R8 probably isn't much faster until you get up to 130-140 ish. His car probably felt more stable at that speed. I recently checked data on Autocar test laps etc and I thing the Tusc was marginally faster for a standing quarter
I was embarassed when a Cayman S caught me napping

this does remind me off the time i looked in the mirror and saw a car up my arse at many leptons, and like you dropped it a gear.....looked in the mirror and saw my engine,or at least parts of it
I can smile now but at the time
I can still remember the flat bed driver saying"my god that will be very expensive"and yes he was correct

I was undertaken on a wet round about in Bracknell while in a Griff by a 2CV.
Does that count?
Does that count?

Thats the best one yetUp ahead a truck appears.
Need to drop to 3rd to finish the manoevre safely.
I'm 2/3rds past the 2CV but best be safe. Competantly and professionally, I select 1st and drop the clutch!!!!!! Rear wheels lock up, car dog legs off towards the field on my right, passenger squeals, I apply vast level of oppo, 2CV sails past and I calmly duck back in behind it as the truck passes, pull in to the side and call the AA as I suspect the valves have gone through the top of the engine.
Worst part was I'd put in excellent ground work with the passenger and was on a promise but she never quite recovered over the course of the rest of the day.

I was going to say the same.I was embarassed when a Cayman S caught me napping

A recent trackday i did there was a r8 v10 and on the back straight at bedford it was definately not faster.
I also had a play with one on a b road and all i'll say is i think his bottle went (straight bit too).
I think the tuscan is very quick upto around 120, after that its good but not that good.
Mine is a red rose with a recent power rebuild and supurb geometry making it very stable (but still scary
) On track i was let past by a gt2, but i just dont think he was driving it well enough, on the straight between maybe 40 and 140 there was no difference- i expected him to pull, but its very easy for me to be in the right gear onto the straight and him in the wrong gear, that alone can make a car look very slow. He let me past after a few corners which was nice
Its also very easy for him to short shift and me not because his car is 100k + Cooper Green said:

V10 R8 has 525-ish hp... They aren't quite "slow"...

Embarassment "moment" for me: few years ago in the Elise (190bhp Rover engine at the time), I drove home from the Belgian coast, suddenly 4 UK VW Golfs "surround" me. Funny to see, 4 generations of Golfs. They start to play a bit, the one in front of me goes to the right, opening up a gap in front of me, while the other three start to "push"...
I drop down a gear, and try to outrun them, only to be left for dead by all 4 of them. A bit further they wait for me, and sign they all have blown V6-es in them...

I must admit that at that speed the front of the car was all over the place and to say i was clenching would be an understatement I was embarassed when a Cayman S caught me napping

I suppose i could have left the right foot planted, but if i'm honest, with the car wandering all over two lanes, and the wife screaming like she was in labour next to me, i should probably admit that i bottled it at that point , oh the shame of it.

On a side note would the fitting of the S front splitters to the front of my Mk 1 make much of a difference to the stability issues ? they dont look substantial enough to create much downforce without a flat undertray and rear diffuser ?
I have embarassed a few! As for being embarrassed...yup, a few times. A vw beetle showed my Cerby a clean pair of heels!! Later i learned it was a 700 bhp drag monster...dressed up as a standard car. It was incredible.
Also been left standing by a ducati...it wasnt even a powerful one...a 746. That was from 60mph up....he was in the powerband i wasnt....he really did just leave me!!!
Never really been embarassed in the Tuscan...yet!
The list on the thread does seems to suggest its only really top end cars costing £100k+ and heavily modified cars that show you up....which i can live with!
