Does anyone know if any TVR specialists are offering the flip bonnet conversion in the SE England area?

I know a couple of companies are doing it in Blackpool and Yorkshire, but I don't have the time or inclination to go so far to get it done!

cheers

Surface and Design spent a lot of time and effort developing that conversion so if you want it done properly I'd suggest that's where you need to go biggrin

Just had mine done and it's an excellent piece of work, well worth the money.

In that case I'd suggest you didn't see an S&D conversion.

Does the bonnet open or half open ?
Is it from a single pivot point ?
and yes it does take a lot of time to get a working system as you can see from the pic i posted

Walford, did you do your conversion yourself or was it done by a company who will be offering it to other customers? If so, who and how much?

Cheers

That's a cracking conversion, looks much better than the half cocked looking things I've seen pictured before. As per previous poster, your own or a supplied one?

I've seen bonnet conversions that open up fully as shown in the pic above and to my eyes they seem to be poorly supported which could potentially lead to damage. Remember the bonnet isn't meant to open and as a result is lacking in the support structure of traditional bonnets that do open so as a result they're quite floppy..

The S&D bonnet doesn't open as wide as shown but it is supported with gas struts and has hinges on both edges. As always it's personal choice. biggrin

V8 GRF, are there gas struts both sides as well? Also do you need to modify the bodywork? Ta.

Yep gas struts on both sides and there are slight mods to the bodywork but I think they've refined the job so it doesn't effect visible paint.

If you're interested just give them a call.

Thanks for that, only thing that disapoints about the Tuscan is not being able to see the engine!

Beware that once the engine bay is accessable there are areas that you'll want to spend money on to make them look presentable as TVR skimped on finish on some parts as they weren't going to be visible biggrin

Ye we did it (fitted LS1/T56 at the same time)
But was a light front end damage car and we cut the engine cover quite a lot, also glassed a fair bit more strength back into it,
So would be a big job on a painted car

took about a week to get it right, but most of that was messing around with the hinge pivot points, to get it to throw clear of the front number plate

you need a hinge similar to the one on a Tuscan boot, but throwing out
Its quite hard to get them to look like they are original
first couple of sets looked a bit "Kit Car"

These are the hinges I supplied for S&D to use with welded custom made plates to spread the load.
