Clutch feels fine to press but it's not doing anything. Can select gear when engine is off but will jump forwards when you try to start it. Is it anything obvious like a snapped cable?

Clutch is hydraulic. Have you fluid in the resevoir? Has it been stiff to get into gear recently? Could be broken fingers or a leak in the system - is there fluid under the car at all?

No fluid leak from what I have seen but it has been playing up a bit recently. Where is the clutch fluid reservoir?

Ok, found it. Seems pretty full up so guessing might be fingers so now need to choose a garage round here.

If you are having the clutch out i would suggest you change the slave cylinder at the same time the seals in the originals are crap so unless you are totally skint it may well be out again to change it if you do not do it now.

Cockey,
This is exactly what happened to me at Thunder in the Tunnels 2 weeks ago. Exactly the same symptoms you describe - good pedal pressure, can select gear with engine off but then jumps forward when you start it.

You fingers have broken. When you get the clutch changed they will check the slave cylinder for what type it is. Mine was luckily the new type and Str8Six suggested not to change it as the new ones are fine.

Cost at str8six was £850+vat but the AA nicely chipped in £500 so it wasn't all bad!!

Cheers guys. RAC man agreed with my amazing knowledge about the fingers being broken hehe called out a low loader and she's on her way to the local specialist.

How come the AA chipped in like that? Got some form of warranty?

I would also change the spigot bearing, for peace of mind :-

If they fail you cant change gear. They are low cost and easy to change with correct puller.

Yes - they offer a parts and labour warranty of up to £500, but only if you break down and not due to wear and tear.. Check their website. I have a basic cover with them, and got a call the other day to ask me if I was interested in that. I think it costs around £100 on top of whatever the standard cover is.

And yes, they will cover TVRs, I asked... :-)

I'm just annoyed that my fingers broke down gradually rather than leaving me stranded. I could have done with the £500 towards the cost. That said I cancelled the insurance after 3 years of paying as I have never had need of recovery in the T350. At £80 odd a year it gets expensive and I now put the money aside into my maintenance fund.

I have just taken this out with AA. I get Roadside with my Halifax Bank Account and they have just upraded it so that you get Homestart as well. I paid for Relay which I think is about £55 per year extra (can't remember now) but they have got a special offer on the Breakdown Repair Cover at the moment and it was £54.99 for the year but I paid £46 as I am 3 months into my year already which I think is excellent value for the peace of mind.
