tuscan s rebuild
Discussion
Hi guys,
Just nipping over from the big boys forum
to gain some knowledge from you guys.
I'm gonna need a rebuild & severely doubt I could push the funds for a 4.3 so was wondering about an 's' spec rebuild. What's the main differences between your basic Tuscan & the Tuscan s.Only on the engine & performance side of things.Mines a standard 4l.Is there much difference?
Many thanks.

Hi Dave, my SP6 Cerbera is at TVR Power at the moment getting a rebuild. I went for the standard rebuild as I just can't stretch to the cost of a 4.3 at the moment. I always found my 4.0L fast in fact very fast before it went "BANG" so I'm very confident that after it has been rebuilt with better internals than when it left the factory and properly run in there will be a noticeable improvement.
I'm sure the "S" versions also require a larger exhaust, and that aint going to be cheap either, I have went for a de-cat and de-cat chip for a few extra BHP and that should close the gap between a "S" and non "S" to just a few BHP.
Can't wait to get it back now and after visiting Power last week I am more than satisfied that it is in good hands.

Hi Dave,
I had a similar decision to make when i first got my Tuscan, within 3 weeks it was in for a rebuild
I also had the option to 's' it, but decided that my cash was spent better elsewhere on the engine. I went for upgrades that gave longevity rather than power - i came to the conclusion that 20bhp is bugger all in the scheme of things and there are far better value for money mods out there to give you performance. 4.3 wasnt really an option as the rebuild to standard spec was under warranty, i paid for the extras for reliability / durability.
some examples....handling; shocks, springs, spacers, bump steer, spoiler, splitter, tyres etc etc
Performance; diff, cr box, decat and chip etc
I believe all of the above will have a much bigger affect than 20 bhp!
Have a look at my past posts if you want to see what i did,
Best of luck,
Rob

Yeah, think you're right Rob.Money would be better spent on other areas of the car,or left in the bank.Standard,to be fair,is enough for me.
George, how is the rebuild going price wise? Has it been easy enough to nail down a price or are you awaiting a final figure.Must say it worries me how much the £ 5k standard rebuild will end up.Hope it goes well.I'll prob end up picking your brains next year if that's ok.
Cheers.

Oh Dave that is a sickener. You seem to be taking it in such good stead. To be fair, I think if I was in the same boat as you I'd be happy with standard too. After all, you can tinker with mapping/exhausts/cats etc when funds allow and bridge the gap between standard and "S" power. Hope all turns out well.

Hi Davey, after inspection my engine required a new crank and the block honed, which has added a further £1k to the cost then also a de-catt chip and a nearside engine mount also. I was thinking about replacing the clutch while the engine was out also but it's working fine at the moment so i'm going to leave it for now. I have already upgraded to Gaz Gold Pros and it has made a difference to the handling once set up correctly. My car should be ready next week but I am collecting it the following week. I wanted good power which the 4.0L has and reliability to enjoy the car without worry, I believe TVR Power will give me that and I will have an engine that is better built, with better components than the day it left the factory. It is for me a lot of cash to spend but TVR Power have a great reputation and I can't wait to get it back now. George, how is the rebuild going price wise?
