Put too much oil in!
Discussion
Sorry folks, I've posted this in the SP6 thread, but I'm sat on tender hooks here and could do with some urgent help/advice.
Clucking bell seems to come to mind!
Further on from my post in the "Measuring oil level" thread.
I rang Dom at TVR Power for advice on the oil level in my Tuscan 1.
On checking the dip at both cold and hot my dipstick was bone dry, Dom recommended chucking between 1 & 1 1/2 ltrs in now and then monitoring the levels.
So me in a bit of a panic of having my engine running dry proceeds to top up with 1 & 1/2 ltrs.
My dip is now reading almost 3/4 the way between min and max, "that's good" you may say, the engine is cold!
What can I do? Apart from sit down and cry! (the tears would be manly tears of course!)
I've not started the car for fear of the world ending.

Don't worry about it, you haven't overfilled it. Only need to worry if the level is significantly above the max mark when cold, and even then it's no big deal.
Just start it up and the oil will then get sucked from the tank, pumped around the engine and you'll see all is well.
As an aside, if you do ever overfill it, and I mean by a lot (3/4 on the dip stick when cold is not overfilled), the worst than can happen is that the excess oil gets pushed up the oil tank breather pipe and into the airbox.
If you're really worried about the level, take the oil tank breather pipe off at the airbox and put the pipe end into an empty container to catch any overspill until the engine is up to temp.
It's a dry sump engine so overfilling it with oil just means that the oil system will purge any excess through the breather and just make a bit of a mess.

Just to update, I checked again this morning, just to give everything a chance to settle down.
I'm now just under MAX on a cold engine. I think I may just be a tad over the acceptable level, so I'm off to Halfrauds this afternoon to get myself a trolly jack, then back to the car where I'll drop 1/2ltr or so from the oil rad. I appreciate that I would probably get away with it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, so my first experience of oily hands with the Tuscan this evening!
Thanks for all the feedback though folks and I'm sure I'll be along soon enough with another problem!

If you really think it is overfilled it use a basting syringe to remove the excess, it will be a lot easier than trying to drain a small amount from the cooler or oil tank. I would just drive it unit the oil temp is 80 Deg.C or so and re-check it,I'm now just under MAX on a cold engine. Oooh.....I like your thinking!I'll see what I can find.
Cheers.
NCE 61 You're a star!
I've just rung my local friendly garage and they're lending me their Syringe kit! So fingers crossed I'll give that a go before I start taking plugs out.
Sorry Fullthrottle, I know you were looking forward to me getting my hands oily, but I may just avoid doing so!

Another source for syringes is to chat-up your local GP/Surgery.I've just rung my local friendly garage and they're lending me their Syringe kit! So fingers crossed I'll give that a go before I start taking plugs out.

You may get some dodgy looks, but if you explain, they might help. I got some 100ml syringes this way. Great for removing a bit of break fluid when changing pads!

You end up collecting some strange tools when you own a TVR !! I've just rung my local friendly garage and they're lending me their Syringe kit! So fingers crossed I'll give that a go before I start taking plugs out.

Check the oil level
Tuscans should have their oil level checked at operating temp as they have a dry sump and the level will drop as soon as the engine begins to cool.
1.Drive car until a hot oil temp is reached (60°C - 85°C).
2.Park on flat ground, leave the engine running.
3.Get out car and open service bonnet.
4.Loosen the oil filler cap (use a cloth - it's very hot!)
5.Turn engine off and remove the oil filler cap.
6.Dip the stick to check the level, don't screw it in.
7.Wait about 20 seconds and check again.
8.If the oil level is below max, top it up.
9.DO NOT OVERFILL!
Normal Tuscan owners do the above! lol

***UPDATE***
So I've now managed to "suck" out about 3/4 ltr and the reading on the dip from cold is on the "I" of "MIN", is that good enough, or do I need to get some more out and get more oil on my hands, my Trs, my T-Shirt and the floor of my garage?
Yes, just start the bloody thing! So I've now managed to "suck" out about 3/4 ltr and the reading on the dip from cold is on the "I" of "MIN", is that good enough, or do I need to get some more out and get more oil on my hands, my Trs, my T-Shirt and the floor of my garage?
Once warm, follow the previously described method of checking the oil You won't break it honest.
