After nearly 4 years with my Chim i am thinking about a Tuscan, going to look at this at weekend

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2973034.htm

I bought Chim from James as well so i know him and his reputation for good cars so no issues there, is this anybodys from here or has anyone got any particular pointers as such, I have looked on mytuscan pages and been reading about speed six issues for ages so i do know what i might be letting myself in for.

No advice to offer unfortunately, but best of luck. Hopefully it will be a peach and you'll have an empty wallet this weekend! Good to see photos of it in build, always interesting to see.

Looks good, would suggest giving Dom at TVR Power a call as it looks to have been recently serviced by them and ask what they thought of the condition etc at service time.
Be prepared for a totally different drive to the Chim, less torque more top end revs and much quicker steering which can feel skittish although there are several well documented mods to help with that.
Good luck with either this one or whichever one you end up with.

Opinion. . . . .old car with a lot of miles, 7 year old rebuild if thats whats claimed, at top of price range, but thats a dealer price not private.

Take it for a drive see what you think, live close to you, Coalville, happy to chat, show you round my car and drive it for comparison. DO NOT go for the first car you drive, or view.

Don't worry about the miles, mine has 49k mils and I and all the TVR specialists I have seen think that a decent amount of use is better than very little. Its still only 5k a year on average, but more of the issues will have been shaken out.

Apart from a very slight weep on the Power Steering pump and a new bearing required on the steering column and worn drivers bolster I find mine is at least as good as other much lower mileage cars.

With the car in question, I would get the rebuild investigated as not all rebuilds are full rebuilds, I have seen the replacement of a couple of finger followers and a cam shaft described as a rebuild.

Main point sas I am sure you are aware are as follows:

Engine Condition - get someone like TVR Power to look at it
Clutch - when was it last replaced
Dash - Any lines on the LCD display
Suspension - Upgrade to Gaz, Protech, Nitrons etc desirable
Heater - does it work properly, lots of issues with the ECU
Roof fit and door seals
Engine mounts
Power Steering leaks
Chassis condition

many of these things listed are not apparent immediately and cars can look fab but have a list of stored up issues

Buy with all that in mind and don't buy the first one (I did but then I am a bit thick, I was lucky though it had a 5 year warranty and that swung it for me)

I also bought my Tuscan from James.
When I picked it up, it had just been to Dom for a short service and to find out why the heater blower motor wasn't working.....NO...it wasn't the ecu, eventually found it was the motor itself, which was replaced.

So - I believe James always puts his cars through Power for a check over before sale. Been very pleased with my car!

Nice car, I really like the interior!

I notice it says 18" wheels but no mention of suspension upgrades?
I would look at that, the advert is short, maybe it's just not mentioned?
They have a reputation for being skittish on the original suspension with bigger wheels.

Looks cheap to me, but maybe that's just the going rate at this time of year?

Just my 2p.

James is very particular about the cars he sells, has a good reputation which has been earned over the years, I would be confident that that particular car will be good for its age and mileage.

There are pros and cons for both low and high mileage cars, all of mine have been higher mileage but they have all been looked after and have served me well over the years.
You pay your money, less of it for the higher mileage cars, and take your chance. The majority of TVRs out there are now 5 years plus old and so need careful inspection and deliberation before parting with your hard earned for them. All IMO of course.
