Just sitting in the car waiting for the rac. Lug has come off the throttle cable at the pedal. Any work arounds. Annoying have tools with me and the foot plate up but no spare cable.

I'm assuming the RAC have already arrived to fix what used to be a common problem on the early cars. I used to carry a spare cable in the boot when I went down to Le Mans!

Probably too late to help but fish said back in 2001 that you "can reline the existing cable with a thinner cable fix kit which will get you on the road"

This useful page tells you how to change the cable :

Hope you get it sorted quickly!

And as told by the organiser the excellent Tuscan Keevil track day on how to drive a Tuscan with some tent string. Apparently the driving experience was quite interesting eek

If the RAC haven't turned up already - is there a B&Q near you? Maybe try getting some electrical chocolate block and slicing one of the connectors off and screwing on the cable?

Guess you mean the nipple has pulled off?

Cheers guys.... yeah the nipple or the dumbell has pulled of the end of the cable. The cable had frayed badly too.. so ended up being recovered on the back of a loader.

Gutted really only just put the thing back together and it was bone dry today.

Are all throttle cables the same.. I see racetech is cheaper than power. Is there any difference between them any one got any recommendations?

I've just edited my orignal reply again as there was a Mk1 and a Mk2 bracket. In 2003. So probably not relevant any more but heh, at least you know that!

Cheers,

Andy.

I am running the Racetech one, been fine. Need to make sure the cable goes in the same arc as the pedal. A quick tweak to the bracket helps. I have the MK2 bracket, and it does seem better. I still don't think it is a great setup though.

Even though I had the new setup the cable frayed at the end, I have now tried to play with the bracket a bit.

I wouldn't bother to carry another cable unless you can get the bonnet off (another reason for the flip front), but an electrical connector is a better bet.

last time I drove it with a pair of molegrips!

Hi Neill,
top advice as usual.. I'll get the racetech cable. Odly in my stress i was sure it would have let go at the throttle body linkage end so whipped the bonet off.. a bit premature.. then worked out after the green haze had died down that it was at the pedal doh..

Hi Matt

Almost always the pedal end, although the clevis pin is another piece of junk. I drew up a new one of those as well, as I had one fatigue as it isn't man enough in my opinion, it is on my planned maintenance at each service. If you haven't changed it, change it..

I have changed 2 now, when you fit the new one just make sure there are no kinks and the cable is well fitted other wise it will snap again. (I learnt that lesson early on) .

I must complete my 12k service, I must complete my 12k service, I must complete my 12k Service.

and the carpets, and the respray and the chassis..........

You'll get a run of bad luck like that every now and again, then it will be fine for weeks. I really do like that black one in the classifieds frown

Yep, I'll check the part number for you. Mind it hasn't got it worth changing anyway.

Looks like my frayed cable is sitting in the new style bracket.

Yep new bracket, might need to tweak it a bit to get it to run in line with the pedal.
