Anyone have either of these and can give me some feedback?

i have just gone through the exercise of trying to see whether i could make any cheaper / better, as many others have, and it seems to be a no-go (i should have listened harder wink ), so i need to buy some!

Racetech ones look very well made, all machined, but the ones at TVR Power are the design thats been around for a while i guess...

Thanks, Rob

edited to say - how the angry smiley got on the main post i dont know (im not angry!!)

Hi Rob,
I've got the Racetech clips on my car.

Good points: well made, look neat/original, do the job very well. Had the roof off a number of times on circuits, going at 140 mph++ (satnav measure) and the back window stayed in. (Did this 'cos I forgot all about taking the screen out!!)

Bad points: Fiddly 4 mm dome headed allen bolt fixing/clamp - could be easy to strip thread. I bought a long handled allen 'screwdriver' which makes it easier to pinch up the perspex when fitting.

The original plastic jobbies are just not fit for purpose

Racetech ones do look good, glad to hear they are getting a thumbs up.

Regarding the fiddly M4 allen bolts - why not replace with something like this?

http://www1.conrad-uk.com/scripts/wgate/zcop_uk/~f...

that way they could be tightened by hand??

Sounds like i will be ordering some Racetech clips shortly then...Thanks gents

Something like this might work if they were available in correct size.

Raceproved clips for me and a flexible screwdriver. Very nearly as quick as the original clips and a million times more secure.

Pls the screwdriver is really useful for all sorts of other Tuscan jobs

Are the Racetech, Raceproved & TVR Power ones not the same? I bought mine from Raceproved and am very pleased with them. The screen is held in securely, and it does not rub on the boot lid so no more squeaks. Screen removal is OK with the screwdriver type ball ended allen key.

Look what turned up in the post today, also on the list of things to do. These are from Racetech

I looked at having some made using my design, but it just wasn't worth it. These are substantial, very well made and do the job. I am looking for an alternative to the allen bolt though, most likely a D-ring or a knurled bolt.

nrick, just ordered mine, how did you get on fitting...did you have any success finding a d ring bolt?

They are simple to fit. I am no engineer, mechanic etc, but it only took me 15 mins. The bolts fit through the holes the self tappers were in.

Well have just ordered two ‘wing screws’ to use with the window clips to save fiddling with the allen bolts, will report back on how i get on....hopefully i will be able to tighten them enough by hand...

From this place, not cheap, £13 including shipping for two m4 wing screws!! Not even stainless as they don’t do them in M4, start M5 upwards...

They look good, I'd be worried about the wing screws catching the bodywork. Might also be an idea not to get stainless as they might have a tendency for galling.

I am going for some M4 titanium or aluminium ones I think.

What do you think of these

RAF spec bolts have got to have some bragging rights?

considered those too, but thought the wings may be easier with cold hand to do up tight - but maybe not - until we try them we wont know!!

They look good too - not sure there is enough thread though - only 11mm?
