Should I get some Toyo Proxes T1-R?

I'm not trying to re-open the 'what tyre should I buy thread' although it would be nice if the search engine was operating right now! Basically, I get the impression that a good number of people were happy with the T1-R's but I understand that production of them was stopped about 2 yrs ago. I've found an outlet that will sell me a set of T1-R's but before I buy them, is the fact that the tyres are going to be at least 2 years old a factor I should bear in mind? Can you tell when a tyre has been produced? How long before such tyres are likely to begin losing their softness? As you can probably tell, I am not very educated on the subject of tyres. Any help much appreciated.

that's what i thought - try Camskill, much more knowledgeable and helpful than BC (who are actually brokers, not stockists)The T1-S was the early tyre and the T1-R is the newer one, the difference is that the V pattern goes all the way to the edge on the T1-S and and it doesn't on the T1-R, the V stops a couple of inches in and has a grove that runs around the the tyre. This was done to change the way water is dispersed from the tyre.
There will be a date stamp on the tyre to say when it was manufactured in the format of 2510 (for example) which would mean week 25 of 2010.
Edit/add - The T1-sport has not replaced the T1-R, it's an asymmetric tyre that has been added to the range alongside the T1-R

yes but the T1 S(port) is back as the "vanilla" choice. Like the OP, I was advised the T1-R is being phased out, although they're still showing as available. The following link is current:

ETA - went through this process around christmas and - Toyo no longer being "inexpensive" - decided that Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s came in at the same money or less and arguably a better all rounder for all seasons daily use. If your car is dry miles only rather than daily, might as well go Toyo R1R or 888 though.
(although i've only got a "lowly" chim 500, we're talking 450+bhp, so tyre choice is quite important for me !)

In my tyre size they are about 40quid per tyre cheaper than the Goodyear you say you got for a sinilar price, thats 50% extra.

As for price, talk to Camskill, not a middleman
On Camskill's website for T1-R's it states: "No stock. Now replaced by new Toyo T1Sport". That's consistent with what I was told by Blackcircle although Toyo's website still lists the T1-R.
Thanks to the poster for the info on tyre date - i've managed to decipher the multitude of codings on the sidewall - it appears as DOTXXXXXMMYY. Surprised how old the tyres are considering when they were actually fitted to the car!

I know its not a new tread pattern, i have had them years ago and have them now but that does not mean it has not been revised with a new compound or stiffer construction etc, unless you know different??As for price, talk to Camskill, not a middleman
