Hi all,

My heater/fan in my Tuscan does not seem to blow much air out of the vents when stationary, and is not overtly strong when moving at speed but stronger. Are they all like this??

Also the vents underneath the steering wheel and the one at the back of the transmission tunnel hardly do anything at all, is this also normal??

The air that does come out is warm when the car is upto temperature though.

Any suggestions/ideas ??

Cheers,

Karl

Karl,

With the ignition on but the engine not running, can you hear the fan running when you turn the knob? I can turn my fan off completely by pushing the knob down.

If you can then is probably the pipe to the rear vent and it runs under the centre console, my pipe was too short so all I got was a left arm warmer. I think the two vents under the steering wheel only blow cold when moving, they are not linked up to the heater pipes.

My car does not have Air Con so those that do may be different.

My steering wheel and transmition tunnel vents are pretty weak, but the ones round the screen are very powerful. Perhaps that's a good thing? Might be quite annoying to have air blasting at your legs and body? confused

Saying that, the non-windscreen vents dont seem to blow hot air so I've probably got a problem somewhere.

Once you have checked that the motor is running and all the 35mm O/D(size?) plastic piping is 'connected to where its supposed to be', then check under the pass' side shelf to confirm that the solid, black, large diameter rubber/silicone elbow is attached to the heater box spigot that protrudes through the engine bulkhead and is also making a good seal on the 'spigot' on the underside of the dash.

The whole top of the dash (with the screen vents in) acts as a big mixing plenum for the heater output (and aircon, if you have it). The spigot on this 'plenum' is a circular turned aluminium piece (it houses the flap that you hear go 'clunk' when the fan comes on). Any leakage here is evident by warm air spilling out around the polished ali cross piece on the dash.
