For a while i have had some problems with my windows.

Symptoms.

Very very slow to close- especially drivers side, has improved with lots of silicone spray, but still pretty slow imo.

Sometimes (most times) when i lock the car by remote the drivers side window doesn't go all the way up, i often have to wait for alarm to set and do it again- sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts with the last couple of inches being the worst. Very occasionaly passenger side does this too.

Sometimes window on drivers side fails to drop when door is opened, as i have just had the car sprayed i cant risk this anymore!

I spoke to racetech who seemed to suggest it would be the encoder (which is cheap too which is a bonus).

Is it that? Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'd change the encoders, they are cheap and prone to going wrong. The symptom is normally not going up or down when they should. Could also be the door microswitches, they sometimes need a quick tweak (the ecu doesn't know the door is open) again a simple job, Or it could be the adjustment of the window in the bottom clamps. You need to get the adjustment right so there is enough to seal, but not too much that it drags on the seal. Cheap but a PIA to get right.

Not sure the encoders would cause this problem? Just had mine apart as it was making funny noises and the encoder wheel was damaged...all realigned and working well again.. I also replaced all the seals and now have a very slow windows, in fact i had to give the drivers side a hand myself! Not sure the encoders will impact this problem though?? Maybe the motors or simply the adjustment of the window / seal clearance? Have tries silicone spray on winder channels / seals and it has helped.

They are tricky, cause too far away from the seal and then they pop the wrong side of the tang on the front screen or leak, too close to the seal and they wont close...PITA.

What a nightmare frown

Replaced encoder and its no better at all, i have sprayed the hell out of the whole lot with silicone spray and while it initially improved it it is still not right.

I looked at the microswitch and it seems to just work, i don't see any adjustement at all.

Thing now is it won't close at all. Window looks to be in correct position in terms of its going up in the right line iykwim.

What else?

Thanks

Check you have no body rub near door mirror.,on mine the body hits or rubs the glass a tad....mine is also slow.Read on a thread somewhere that you can beef up the wiring this normally speeds things up.Also as a thought have you put new door rubbers in as sometimes you need to shim the door out a bit if the rubbers are not genuine tvr rubbers. Is the glass faster when door is open.

Take the door card off and measure the volts hitting the motor when it's driven - it should be. 12v - if it's reading lower you've got a dodgy joint somewhere that you should be able to trace smile

Went and had a play and have noticed a couple of things.

Window doens;t seem to operate at all when door is open, i'm pretty certain it used to.

I have got the window to completly close but it requires a push from me to do so, its incredibly slow.

Encoder is fine as i tried a new one.

Window does drop when door is opened.

Wires all look to be in good condition with no visible damage.

I wanted to test voltage but am unsure where to put the terminals?

Had a similar prob on mine. Window would not drop sometimes and worked sporadicly when i moved the open door. Turned out to be a bad connection on one pin of the connector between the door and the body.
you see it when the door is open. Not enough space to get the plug out between door and body. Had to retract it through the hole in the door where the leads go through and made the gap on the pins a little wider to provide better connection. Eversince all is well!

Thanks Jimmy i'll have a look in that area next. It has been tampered with recently so it could well be a didgy connection there.
